In the long history of Russia, there were both bright and tragic pages, periods of power and downfalls. For example, in the last decade of the last century, which received the eloquent nickname "crazy 90s", she went through very difficult trials. Politicians abroad have already decided that Russia can be “written off”. However, their forecasts were not destined to come true.

Step 1

Russia was able to cope with the difficulties that fate had prepared for it, and again became an influential force in the international arena. What is the current Russian reality? The period when Russia was not considered (for example, when deciding to bomb Serbia) is in the past. The Russian state is increasingly confidently demonstrating its readiness and ability to defend both its own interests and the interests of its allies. For example, only a firm position of Russia helped to prevent the armed aggression of the United States and its NATO partners against Syria.

Step 2

Compared to the recent past, Russia's financial position has become much better. The country has almost completely paid off its external debts and was able to create impressive gold and foreign exchange reserves. Russia has become an important economic partner for many foreign countries, including China. However, it should be borne in mind that it is still heavily dependent on the export of hydrocarbons.

Step 3

The moral and political climate has changed markedly. In the "crazy 90s", which was personified by the impoverishment of many millions of Russians, the imposed cult of money, quick easy money, unfair privatization, rampant crime, apathy, cynicism, and a disrespectful attitude to Russian history, traditions, and values became widespread. Some people were overly enthusiastic, uncritical about everything related to the West. Now the situation is exactly the opposite, although the negative phenomena that have arisen in the above period of time are still manifesting.

Step 4

The influence of the oligarchs and the financial and industrial groups behind them is still quite significant. At the same time, the show trial, which ended with the conviction of one of the largest oligarchs, Mikhail B. Khodorkovsky, played a role. The "financial aces" are trying to strictly abide by the tacit agreement: they do not interfere in politics and pay taxes, and the state, in return, does not nationalize their enterprises, which were privatized in the 90s.

Step 5

Unfortunately, the standard of living of some Russians, especially in rural areas and small towns, is still very low. Therefore, there is a steady migration to large cities, especially Moscow. Modern Russians cannot imagine life without the Internet and travel to foreign countries (if, of course, finances allow). The most popular destinations are Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Finland.
