Nora Jones (full name of Gitali Nora Jones Shankar) is an American singer, musician, performer of her own songs, film actress. She began her solo career in 2002 with the release of her first successful album "Come Away with Me".

Nora was born in the United States in the spring of 1979. Her father is the famous musician Ravi Shankar, who instilled in his daughter a love of art from childhood.
After her parents separated in 1986, Jones moved with her mother from New York to Grapewan, Texas. Here she began attending Colleyville Middle School and then enrolled at Grapevine High School.
Nora became interested in music and creativity early. During her school years, she began to sing in the church choir, learned to play the piano and saxophone, took vocal lessons, and attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
After completing her primary education, she entered the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas. Then she continued her education at the University of North Texas (UNT).
During her student years, Nora won the DownBeat Student Music Awards twice as Best Jazz Vocalist and Original Performer.
In 1998, Nora, together with her father Ravi Shankar, performed at a concert in New Delhi.
Creative career
While studying at the university, the girl met many famous jazz musicians and participated in student concerts. There she also met with Jesse Harris, who became the co-author of many of Nora's songs. In 1999, together with Jesse, they founded their own music group in New York.
In 2002, the singer's first successful album "Come Away with Me" was released, which received 5 Grammy awards. After that, she recorded 10 more albums that became popular all over the world.
In 2008, Nora formed an alternative country band with her friends Sasha Dobson and Catherine Popper. In 2014, they released the album "No Fools, No Fun".
Film career
Jones came to the cinema in 2002. She played a small role as a pianist in the film "Love with a Notice."
A few years later, the girl got the main role of Elizabeth in the melodrama "My Blueberry Nights". Famous actors Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Rachel Weisz became her partners on the set. The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Palme d'Or.
