Creation
John Millet was a member of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood, was one of the founders of this artistic movement. This trend is characterized by the fact that the artists returned to the era of Rafaello, and what was created after him, they did not take into account. According to eyewitnesses, John could work for hours in cold rains, he was bothered by autumn winds, midges. The artist endured such inconveniences in order to depict nature in a very reliable way. He could spend many hours over flowers, near the surface of a reservoir, in order to convey every stroke and line of these picturesque creatures.
But then John Millet changes direction in painting, as it was necessary to make money.
Personal life
The lack of funds became especially acute when John Millet got married and started a family. The wife of a friend became his chosen one. Together, the young people rested. The Ruskin couple invited John to join them for the three of them to spend the summer in Glenfinlas.
But on this trip, Ruskin's wife - Effie and John fell in love, and eventually got married.
To be able to earn money, John Millet began to paint canvases unusual for him, to create portraits of wealthy people.
But even in these works the original style of the painter was visible.
Works of the master
On his canvas Ophelia, the artist depicted Elizabeth Siddal. She was a poet and model. Another girl was the beloved of the English artist and poet Dante.
