When you decide to update your wardrobe or arrange an audit of the contents of your wardrobe before the change of seasons, you may find many things that you are not going to wear either in the near or in the distant future. Some do not fit you in size, others were bought for the occasion and do not fit anything, others were presented to you - and they hung there for several years without needing to. Don't rush to put your dresses and trousers in trash bags: you can get rid of unwanted clothes more profitably by handing them over to a thrift store.

Step 1
Thrift stores accept used or new clothes and shoes for sale. The requirements for items intended for delivery are almost the same everywhere: clothes must be clean, free from defects and stains, shoes must not be worn out, in good condition. Take a close look at everything you are about to take to the store. If it is not possible to remove the stains, the blouse is hopelessly out of fashion, and fixing the zipper on the skirt will cost more than the skirt itself, it is better to just throw all these things away, since they will most likely not be accepted into the store.
Step 2
Pay attention to the seasonality of things: if you hand over a warm down jacket and winter boots in the summer, they hang in the store for several months, they will be discounted several times and by the onset of cold weather they will be sold for 50 percent of the original cost. Some stores refuse to accept goods at all, for which the high season has not yet arrived.
Step 3
Having chosen the store to which you want to drop off your items, specify on which days the item will be accepted. Be sure to take your passport with you - it will be required to conclude a contract. The price of the goods is set by agreement with the seller. Resist the temptation to overcharge even very well-preserved or new and expensive items. If things are not sold within the first month after delivery, commissions reduce prices by 10-30 percent, but if this does not help, the item is discounted again, so it is in your best interest to demand less in order to get money faster.
Step 4
If you want to donate expensive items from well-known brands, look for thrift stores that specialize in branded apparel and footwear. The requirements for rented items in such stores are higher, but there are chances to sell unnecessary designer items at a better price.
Step 5
The store commission is on average 30-40 percent of the value of the goods sold. A list of all items handed over with a description and indication of their value must be attached to the contract. The store is obliged to reimburse the cost of lost or damaged items: check if this clause is indicated in the contract.
Step 6
There are thrift stores that accept electronics, household appliances, furniture, dishes and other household items. Thrift stores of children's clothing and footwear are very popular. Babies grow up quickly, not having time to wear out overalls and boots, and many thrifty parents are ready to buy things for children that have already been in use, but well preserved. The same stores often accept used strollers, walkers, and children's furniture.
