Biography of a famous person
Andrey Paul was born in St. Petersburg in 1794. The exact date of birth is not known, sources indicate dates from 8 to 19 February. The boy was born into a wealthy family. In his youth, he graduated from several private educational institutions, and then entered the Peter and Paul School. Andrey graduated from college with honors. After graduation, he worked in the Kronstadt office for six months. After that, he entered the Moscow Medical and Surgical Academy, from which he graduated in 1815.
Andrey Pol's career
Realizing that medicine is his vocation, he began to develop in this area. He began his career in the residency of the Obukhov hospital. After six months of his work, he became the attending physician of the Minister of Education A. K. Razumovsky and the family of M. I. Flights. Together with these families, he traveled a lot and improved his education in the largest educational institutions in the world. During his life, he visited Paris, London, Naples, Vienna and Berlin.
4 years later, Andrei Pol became the attending physician of Prince D. V. Golitsin. In the same year he defended his doctoral dissertation and became a senior physician at the Catherine Hospital.
In 1825 he defended another dissertation in surgery. In 1833, Andrei Pol became an ordinary professor and director of the surgical Novo-Catherine hospital.
Throughout his life, he had to face several epidemics: in 1828 - typhus, and in 1830 - cholera.
In 1859, Andrei Paul retired with the title of Honored Professor of Moscow University. He went to his estate in the Moscow region, where he died in 1864.
The famous scientist was buried at the Vvedenskoye cemetery on the outskirts of Moscow.
Andrey Pol's achievements
- One of the most significant achievements in the professor's life was the use of chloroform anesthesia. This event happened in 1847 in Moscow. The professor was the first to use chloroform as a pain reliever, instead of distracting conversation.
- The main direction in which the scientist worked was urology. The professor has performed more than 500 operations in his entire life.
- Andrei Pol was the creator of courses on the treatment of syphilis and some eye diseases, which he taught at the university.
- In 1847, he carefully described cholera and methods of dealing with it. An edition of the same name was published under his name.
Personal life
No special information has been found about Andrey Pol's personal life. It is only known that his wife was Lyubov Khristoforovna, who was born in the city of Oppel. They had no children.
