The Psalter, or the Psalter, is one of the books of the Old Testament of the Bible, a collection of spiritual hymns and songs. The author of most of the psalms is King David of the Jews. The name comes from the ancient string instrument of the same name, to the accompaniment of which these songs were performed. Reading the Psalter is difficult for modern Christians for two reasons: firstly, it is written in an obscure Church Slavonic language, and secondly, there are many hints and prophecies in it, which can only be deciphered with the help of interpreters.

Instructions

Step 1

It is better to read the Psalter in Church Slavonic. The book of psalms has been translated into Russian literally, with a partial loss of the meaning of some words.

Reading in Slavic requires special knowledge. For all its resemblance to modern Russian, it differs significantly from it in the construction of verb forms and the conjugation of nouns. Buy a Church Slavonic textbook from any church and learn the language.

Step 2

Read the first psalm in its entirety. Make a general impression, analyze the meaning of the words. Find out the meaning of incomprehensible words in the textbook.

Step 3

Read the interpretation of this psalm from different theologians: Ambrose of Mediolan, Augustine the Blessed and others. Pay attention to what words the psalmist says predicts about this or that event.

Step 4

Read the psalm again, correlating your opinion, the text of the psalm and the interpretation of the holy fathers. Memorize the epithets characteristic of this or that event or phenomenon. Pay attention to the main idea around which the interpretations are built - the future incarnation, death and resurrection of Christ.

Step 5

Analyze the rest of the psalms in the same way. It is best to read one song a day, later you can increase the number.
