Biography

Born September 14, 1959 in Kongsberg (Norway). He was the second child in a family of five. His father, Rydar (1931), worked as the chief physician at the hospital, and his mother, Henny (1930-2010), was a school teacher.

He recalled school years as not the most favorable. Morten said that relations with classmates did not work out. His main hobby at the time was collecting butterflies and growing orchids. Only at the age of 15 did he appreciate music and its meaning.

In 1979, Morten Harket entered the Faculty of Theology. After studying there for a year, he went to serve in the army. In the same year, he met Magne Furuholmen and Paul Vauktor - future colleagues in the a-ha group. This meeting completely changed his views on the future.

Career and creativity

On Morten's birthday, a-ha was born. Together they went to London in search of fame. Their first trip turned out to be a failure. But after the second attempt, the whole world learned about their group. Soon a-ha is releasing 5 studio albums.

In 1988, Morten tried himself for the first time in cinema. He starred in the Norwegian film Camilla and the Thief. A year later, the sequel to this film, Camilla and Sebastian, is released.

In 1994, the members of the a-ha group decided to take a temporary break and pay more attention to solo work. Morten Harket releases his first solo album in Norwegian. It includes songs based on poems by famous Norwegian poets on Gospel themes.

The next album was Wild Seed (1995) - entirely in English.

In addition, Morten Harket is also known as a fighter for the liberation of the oppressed people of East Timor, who for 25 years lived under a dictate, ignored by the UN and the whole world. Morten first learned of Indonesia's oppression of the people of East Timor in 1993. Mourin Davis, a Canadian law professor, contacted Morten and sent him several books on the tragic history of East Timor. The singer read them and became interested in the problem.

In May 2003, Morten became the host of a television program about East Timor, which was filmed during his visit there. The trip was aimed at finding out what are the chances of this state to finally get away from endless international friction and develop its economy and education, find its place in the international arena.

In 1998 a-ha got together again. They performed at a concert in honor of the Nobel Prize winners and their joint creative activity was resumed. The band released their sixth album, Minor Earth Major Sky. This album went platinum, and four compositions from it took the first lines in the world charts. The album includes 2 songs written by Morten in his solo career. The group's return was successful. 12 years after the appearance of the solo album Vogts Villa, Morten released his fourth (second English-language) album, Letter from Egypt.

In 2009, a-ha announced their final disbandment. During their farewell tour, they played 73 concerts around the world. However, in 2014, the group reunited again, releasing the album Cast in Steel in 2015.

In 2017, Morten became a mentor in the fourth season of the Norwegian show "The Voice"

Here's how they say about him:

The creator generously endowed him not only with a bright appearance, but with an impeccable ear for music and a delightful, charming, unique voice with a range of 5 octaves. He holds the world record for the duration of one note among male vocalists in pop music (20.2 seconds in the song Summer Moved On, 2000), and at the end of the 80s of the last century was recognized as the best vocalist in Europe.

The path to the top of the musical Olympus was predetermined by fate. The innate talent, polished by daily work on himself, gave its result - his voice sounds all over the world, his name is known by millions. Inimitable, legendary - Morten Harket - man-Dream, man-Mystery, man-Love, man-Magnet.

It inspires, inspires, drives you crazy, heals. Pearls like him are born once in a thousand years and are simply doomed to everyone's attention and admiration.

He is ideal: tall, handsome, broad-shouldered, with chiseled cheekbones, a strong-willed chin, a flawless profile and a sunny smile.
