Recently, the name of Sergei Udaltsov has been increasingly appearing in the news and on the pages of periodicals. However, some citizens still do not really know who he is and why he is so often placed under administrative arrest for 15 days.
Sergei Udaltsov is one of the brightest representatives of the opposition. He is the coordinator of a left-wing organization called the Left Front and the leader of the Red Youth Vanguard movement. In addition, Udaltsov coordinates the Council of Initiative Groups of Moscow - this is a movement of social activists in the capital who are fighting against pinpoint construction and various violations of environmental legislation. At the same time, the oppositionist is not a member of any political party.
Sergei Udaltsov was born in Moscow on February 16, 1977. He began to take an interest in politics while still a student. At the age of 20, Sergei became a member of the Labor Russia movement, led by the communist Viktor Anpilov. Subsequently, Udaltsov was a member of the executive committee of this movement. A year later, he took part in the elections to the State Duma. However, he never got into parliament, since his bloc was unable to overcome the five percent electoral barrier.
After that, Udaltsov organized and headed the Vanguard of Red Youth. This movement was the youth wing of Labor Russia. In 2004, he parted with Anpilov in political views, and the "Vanguard of Red Youth" began to be considered the wing of the CPSU of Oleg Shein.
In 2005, the oppositionist supported the idea of creating a new movement called the Left Front. Udaltsov took an active part in the process of its formation. In the same year, he again ran for deputy, this time for the Moscow Duma on the list of the Communist Party. However, he did not become a parliamentarian again. In 2007, Sergei left the ranks of the CPSU. Since then, he has been listed as non-partisan.
Recently, Udaltsov was mentioned in the Russian press as a rather active participant in street opposition rallies, who was repeatedly detained by law enforcement officers. According to Udaltsov himself, he was detained more than a hundred times at various demonstrations, rallies and placed under administrative arrest.
He was one of the organizers of the so-called "March of Millions", which took place in the Russian capital on May 6-7, 2012 and was timed to protest against the inauguration of Vladimir Putin. Udaltsov advocates building socialism in the country, but through the democratization of the "bourgeois revolution." He believes that computer technology and the Internet will make democracy direct. He considers the "plutocrats" to be the main enemies of Russia. By this word Udaltsov means a small handful of rich people in whose hands real power is.
