The future Treasurer of Pennsylvania was born on November 21, 1939, into an ordinary American family. Parents lived in the small town of St. Charles in Missouri. My father worked in a car workshop. Mother was engaged in housekeeping. Robert grew up a collected and purposeful child. I studied well in elementary school. He was actively involved in sports. He willingly participated in charity events. After school, he received a specialized education at the College of Liberal Arts. He earned his Master's Degree in Social Research from the renowned University of Cambridge Springs.
Corruption scandal
After graduating from university, Robert taught sociology at school for several years. A capable teacher was involved in social activities. After a short period of time, he became a member of the Republican Party. His political career was going well. Dwyer was active in recruiting the party ranks. In 1965, he was elected Member of the Pennsylvania State Legislature in the next election. Five years later, he became a senator. In 1981, Robert Dwyer, a man of impeccable reputation, was elected to the position of treasurer of the state of Pennsylvania.
In the mid-1980s, independent auditors discovered errors in the taxation system. Anyone who paid income tax in Pennsylvania was entitled to compensation. To calculate the amount of this compensation, they hired a third-party audit company from the state of California. It soon became clear that the state treasurer had received a large bribe from the company. The forensic investigation confirmed that the kickback was received. However, the accused Robert Dwyer categorically did not admit his guilt.
Punishment without crime
The day before the verdict was announced, Robert Dwyer held a large press conference in his office. After the opening speech, he picked up a revolver and shot himself. This act was the only step left for the treasurer to keep his good name.
After this event, the media discussed Dwyer's act, his career and personal life for a long time. The deceased is survived by a wife and two children. Under the current legislation, the family received more than one million dollars in monetary compensation.
