The cartoon "Last year's snow was falling" was created in 1983. And since then, this unpretentious story of the adventures of an unlucky plasticine peasant in a plasticine country has been considered one of the best creations of Soviet animation art.
The cartoon "Last Year's Snow Was Falling" tells the story of how a lazy and cunning man, who also badly pronounces some "letters and numbers", was sent into the forest for a New Year tree. His wife, "strict and authoritative", sent him there. While searching for a suitable Christmas tree, a peasant stumbles upon a hare and dreams of wealth overwhelm him. But his fantasies collapse when the beast, frightened by him, runs away. Of course, the unlucky protagonist constantly finds himself in stupid situations and ends up returning without a tree. This result does not suit his wife, and she again sends her husband in search of the ill-fated Christmas tree. In the New Year's forest, a peasant meets a clever crow, a hut on chicken legs, a magic pike, and experiences incredible transformations. All this distracts him so much from the true goal of the campaign that he again comes to his domineering wife without getting a New Year tree. And only the third campaign, according to the storyteller, ends in success. A peasant got a tree and proudly brought it to his wife. But spring had already come, so the tree had to be carried back to the forest. Several moments transform the simple plot of the plasticine cartoon. Firstly, the famous actor Stanislav Sadalsky voices both the storyteller and the main character in the cartoon, who gives a unique sound to even the simplest phrases. Secondly, Thirdly, the narrator (aka the storyteller) and the peasant are always bickering with each other, giving the tale a special charm and flavor. The cartoon has long been disassembled into quotes, each of which has become a cult. Remember? “What a life without a piano”, “And even though I'm greedy, but from a pure heart”, “I sent it, I sent it.” Director Alexander Tatarsky managed to revive the cartoon characters, give them humanity and weaknesses understandable to everyone. This, as well as the kind, fabulous atmosphere, is the secret of the fact that for several decades the interest in this animated story has not subsided.
