Walkie-talkies, as wearable radios are called for short, come in different types. Some of them do not require obtaining a permit at all, for others they must be obtained according to a simplified scheme, and to use the third one will have to go through a complex bureaucratic procedure.

Instructions

Step 1

Having purchased a radio station operating at a frequency of 27, 14 MHz with an output power of no more than 10 mW, start using it immediately after removing it from the packaging container. No permissions have been required to use it since 1988. True, such radios operate at a distance not exceeding several tens of meters, moreover, they are single-channel. It is not for nothing that formally they are even considered for children, although in practice they are used not only by children.

Step 2

If you want to use walkie-talkies without permission, but do not want to be limited to such short distances, purchase devices of the LPD or PMR standard. They can be used without adhering to any formalities since 2006. The first of them must have an output power of no more than 10 milliwatts, inclusive, the second, no more than 0.5 W, inclusive. Remember, however, that the sales of LPD radios with a power output like PMRs are very common. Formally, the use of such stations is illegal.

Step 3

To start using a radio station of the CBS range, it is necessary to carry out a simplified registration procedure for it. When purchasing a station, make sure that its output power does not exceed 4 watts. Find a local branch of an organization called Rossvyazkomnadzor, bring the station there and register. This procedure is free. Then find another organization called a radio frequency center. Find out if your area requires a mandatory callsign. If so, pay a small fee and get the callsign. Check the validity periods of the received documents and update them in a timely manner.

Step 4

If you live in the territory of Ukraine, the Republic of Belarus or the United States, you can use CB radio stations without registration. Check the local regulations for the power rating of such a plant.

Step 5

In case you want to use an amateur radio station of the fourth category (and there are almost no other portable ones), first contact your local radio club, which has the appropriate authority, with a statement about your desire to take the exam. Your application will be considered in about a month, during which you need to prepare for the exam. You do not need to learn Morse code (this is only needed for the third, second and first categories). Take your documents with you to the exam, a list of which will be provided to you in advance. After arriving at the club, fill out the form, and then take the exam. Then the representative of the club will send the result of the exam to the local radio frequency center without your participation. You will receive an answer shortly in the mailbox of your entrance. Taking it with you, purchase a radio station. You can make it yourself - amateur radio stations, unlike all those discussed above, do not require certification. Then, together with the purchased or manufactured radio station and the received documents, come to the radio frequency center. There it will be checked for compliance with the current standards, after which two more necessary documents will be sent to your home, one of which will say about the assignment of a category to you, and the other - a callsign. After that, start using the radio station.
