Childhood and youth

The biography of the future queen of action-packed ladies' novels began in 1948. Sandra was born in the Texas town of Waco, in a prosperous and well-to-do family. Later, the writer herself noted that her childhood was even too calm - nothing interesting and imaginative happened in a quiet town.

After graduating from school, Sandra entered the Texas Christian University - it was such an education that was considered acceptable for a prosperous girl, focused not so much on a career as on a successful family. True, the exemplary student did not have a chance to graduate from an educational institution - she soon met her future husband and moved to his homeland, Oklahoma.

Having mastered in a new place. Sandra applied to a local university and a few years later received the coveted diploma. Then the search for their place in life began. The young woman tried her hand at acting, was a model, a participant in advertising shootings, and worked as an administrator in a store. However, her real calling found her by accident - the idea of becoming a writer was suggested by one of the guests of a talk show organized by her husband. After attending a writing conference in Houston, Miss Brown made the firm decision to become a true professional.

Career and creativity

Sandra began with short stories and novellas, submitting them to literary magazines. Her style was to the liking of editors and the public; a few months after the release of the first works, the aspiring writer managed to conclude a contract with the publishing house. The conditions proposed to Sandra Brown were rather strict: she had to submit 6 manuscripts a year, which were published under different pseudonyms. The aspiring novelist honestly fulfilled all the points of the contract. In the 80s, she wrote books under the pseudonyms of Rachel Ryan. Laura Jordan, Erin St. Clair.

The turning point was 1987 - by this time the writer decided to come out of the shadows and publish under her own name. The first swallow was the novel "Like two drops of water", published in 1990 and included in the list of the best books of the year according to the magazine "New York Times". The novel was highly praised by critics and readers who liked the light syllable and intricate intrigue in the plot. The author skillfully intertwined mystical and detective threads with love-romantic ones, creating unusual books that differ from banal ladies' novels. The stories, invented by Sandra Brown, were popular not only for bored housewives and teenagers, but also for intellectuals.

In the 90s and early 2000s, the successful novelist wrote at least 3 novels a year, but later significantly slowed down, releasing just one book a year. However, regular readers noted that the new tactics did her good: the plots became more diverse and whimsical, original motives and an abundance of characters with different characters appeared in them.

Among the most popular action novels by Sandra Brown:

  • "Crossing the Borders" (1985);
  • "Like two drops of water" (1990);
  • French Silk (1992);
  • "Alien Intrigues" (1996);
  • Envy (2001);
  • Ricochet (2006);
  • Smoke Screen (2008);
  • "Witness" (2011);
  • The Loop of Desire (2012);
  • "Cabin in the Mountains" (2014);
  • "Honey Nights" (2014).

In addition to action-packed novels, Sandra wrote more traditional books in the melodramatic genre. Readers especially fell in love with complex stories with strong but gentle heroines who inevitably extricate themselves from difficult life situations. The bestseller lists regularly included books published between 1981 and 1993:

  • "Reckless Love";
  • Silk Web;
  • "Wedding wreath";
  • "An unexpected pirouette";
  • "Tiger Prince" and others.

A total of 37 books were written in the genre "Modern love story" (including the earliest, reprinted several years later).

Sandra Brown's books have been translated into foreign languages and reprinted many times. Some of them were filmed, and the scripts were written by the novelist herself. In 1998, the writer received the prestigious Guild of American Romantic Authors Award, and in 1998 she won the American Business Women's Association Award.

Personal life

The novelist herself has repeatedly admitted that her puritanical upbringing and family orientation helped her avoid temptations. She wove love affairs in her novels, remaining faithful to one man - her husband, whom she met at the University of Texas. The wedding with Michael Browns took place in 1968, and since then the couple have practically never parted.

In marriage, Sandra's only son, Ryan, was born. He received a good education and chose the profession of an actor. Ryan has starred in films and TV shows, including those where his mother acted as a screenwriter.

Despite her advanced years, the writer is not going to give up public life. She consistently publishes one novel a year, travels extensively on writing tours, holds thematic conferences and meetings with readers.

The novelist devotes her free time to charity. Sandra Brown regularly donates funds to support funds for muscular dystrophy and breast cancer patients. Together with her husband, she established a personal scholarship, which is awarded annually to the best graduates of Texas Christian University - the same one where Sandra and Michael once met and fell in love with each other.
