David Lagerkranz is a famous Swedish writer and journalist, co-author of the biography of the famous football player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a descendant of the 19th century poet Geyer, chairman of PEN International, the worldwide association of writers.
Biography
David was born in early September 1962 in the family of the rather famous poet Olof Lagerkranz and his wife Martina Ruin. The childhood of the son of a writing dynasty passed in Stockholm, in the intellectual environment of people engaged in creativity and science. Marika, the sister of the future famous journalist, became a famous actress, and then went into politics.
David received his education first at the university, where he studied philosophy and religion, and then he entered the Gothenburg School of Journalism. David received his first work experience in the regional newspaper Expressen, where he covered the Swedish criminal world in the late 80s and early 90s. Some of those events formed the basis of his books.
Writing career
The first experience of writing for David was the biography of the Swede Jöran Kropp, a rock climber, adventurer and well-known traveler, which was published in 1997. In 2000, Lagercrantz published a biography of the inventor Hakan Lance, which was soon followed by a documentary.
Then Lagerkrantz acted as a co-author of the description of the life of the national sports hero, football player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, releasing together with him in the fall of 2011 the book "I am Zlatan", which was based on a hundred hours of interviews with the athlete. This book became a bestseller, was published in three dozen countries, and David received the August Prize for it and numerous positive reviews from critics around the world.
David's first fiction novel was Fall of Man in Wilmslow, the title of which was translated into Russian as The Temptation of Turing, a story about Alan Turing, the mathematician who saved the world during World War II.
In 2015, David completed work on the fourth volume of the sequel to Millennium, Stig Larrson's bestselling book. Unfortunately, Larrson passed away from a heart attack in 2006, and his trilogy was published posthumously and was fully filmed. At the request of the publishing house Norstedts, David agreed to sign a contract to create a sequel to the popular trilogy and brilliantly coped with this task.
Lagerkranz's book "The Girl Who Was Stuck in the Web" was filmed in 2018. In 2017, the fifth part was released, the events of which take place almost entirely in the prison, where the girl found herself at the end of the previous story. And in August 2019, the sixth book of the cycle, entitled "The Girl Must Die", was released.
Personal life
The writer is married to Anna Karin Lagenkrantz, who is a director and editor for Swedish radio, the head of the Swedish news and sports department on television, and the manager of Dagens Eko, a famous, wealthy and popular woman in her country. Lagerkrantz's husband and wife have three children.
