Isaac Asimov, the future science fiction writer and specialist in biochemistry, was born on January 2, 1920. His birthplace was the village of Petrovichi, which is located on the territory of the Smolensk region of Russia. Birth name - Isaak Yudovich Ozimov.
The family of the future master of American fiction moved to the other side of the world after the Civil War. In the late 1920s, Azimov became a full-fledged citizen of the United States.
Isaac went to school at the age of five. He amazed teachers and comrades with his abilities, jumped through the classes. Asimov completed the full school course at the age of 15. After that, the young man enters Brooklyn College, and then becomes a student at the Faculty of Chemistry, famous for its graduates, Columbia University (New York). Here, in 1939, Azimov received a bachelor's degree, and a little later became a master's degree in chemistry.
During World War II, Isaac worked as a chemist at a military shipyard in Philadelphia, after which he managed to serve in the army. The service came to an end, it was necessary to choose a further path in life. Azimov did not think long: he returned to New York and continued his education. In 1948, a young scientist, a graduate student, received his doctorate.
A year later, Isaac was already teaching at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Boston. He confidently made a scientific career, becoming a professor. He penned scientific works in the field of chemical sciences. He also worked hard on books of the popular science genre.
Isaac Asimov and Literature
Science to a large extent contributed to the acquisition of Azimov popularity in the field of literature. World fame for the scientist did not come from the field of chemical research. In 1983, Azimov underwent heart surgery. During medical procedures, which included blood transfusions, he became infected with HIV. However, this diagnosis was made only after a few years. Against the background of HIV infection, Isaac began to develop renal and heart failure. Scientist and science fiction writer passed away at New York University Hospital on April 6, 1992.
The writer was married until 1970. After a family union with Gertrude Blugerman, he was left with a son and a daughter.
