Family and childhood
Kyle Merritt McLachlan was born in Yakima, a small city in Washington state. He became the oldest son in the family, after him two more boys were born. The father of the family worked as a lawyer and broker, and his mother worked as a PR manager. The actor himself has repeatedly claimed that through his mother he is a descendant of Johann Sebastian Bach.
From school years, Kyle was taught to work. At a local sawmill, he learned how to process wood and make various objects from it. He combined this rough and difficult occupation with a more sublime one - playing the organ. After leaving school, McLachlan wanted to continue making music, but his mother strongly recommended that he try himself in acting.
Education
Thanks to a tip from his mother, Kyle McLachlan began studying fine arts in Washington's northwestern coastal city of Seattle. The young man graduated from the university in 1981 and took part in the Shakespeare Festival a year later. This event gave the young actor the most important acquaintance in his film career - his acquaintance with David Lynch.
Film career
The director immediately drew attention to McLachlan's potential and invited him to star in the title role in the science fiction film Dune. Thus began a long way of cooperation between two talented people.
David Lynch often entrusted Kyle with complex, extraordinary roles. The characters of the young actor were as if outside the world of ordinary people. In 1986 he played one of the main characters in Lynch's surreal work "Blue Velvet". His work has been highly acclaimed by both audiences and critics. Since 1987, Kyle McLachlan began working with other directors, as he was simply bombarded with new proposals. He took part in the projects of Jack Sholder, Malcolm Mowbray, Oliver Stone, Mark Rocco and others. But the most productive work was with Lynch.
In 1987, the actor accepted an offer to play Agent Dale Cooper in a mysterious place called Twin Peaks. This role has brought McLachlan worldwide fame, recognition and many awards. After the end of the second season, the actor for some time decided to refuse to cooperate with Lynch, as he wanted to try himself in a more mundane and realistic role. On the set of Twin Peaks, Kyle McLachlan met Lara Flynn Boyle, who plays Donna Hayward. The young people began an affair that lasted several years. Over time, the feelings cooled down, and the actors parted.
Later, the actor began a relationship with married model Linda Evangelista. She left her husband and went to McLachlen. Soon, the couple announced their engagement, but the celebration never took place: the girl did the same with her new fiancé as she did with her ex-husband, leaving him for another guy after 7 years of relationship.
Kyle McLachlan met his love in 1999. He met Deseri Gruber, a fashion TV show producer. In 2002, they officially became husband and wife, and in 2008 the couple had a son.
