Biography
Ellen DeGeneres was born on January 26, 1958 in the New Orleans suburb of Mathery, Louisiana. Her parents were a speech therapist and insurance agent. Her brother Vance became a producer and musician. Ellen has French, English, German and Irish roots. As a child, she was brought up according to the rules of the Scientist Church. When DeGeneres was a teenager, her parents divorced and a stepfather appeared in the family. The family moved to Atlanta, and Vance was taken by his father.
It was in Atlanta that DeGeneres graduated from high school, but returned to Louisiana for further studies. Ellen wanted to get her degree in public relations from a local university. However, she soon dropped out and started working as a salesman, painter, bartender.
