Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov was officially married twice. With his second wife Galina, he found personal happiness and stopped looking for hobbies on the side. The Marshal took the death of his wife hard and survived it for only six months.
Relationship with Maria Volokhova
Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov is a legendary commander, Marshal of the Soviet Union, four times Hero of the Soviet Union, holder of two Orders of Victory, holder of many other Soviet and foreign orders and medals. After the end of the war, they began to call him "Marshal of Victory".
Zhukov's personal life has always been very stormy. He met the mother of his first daughter Maria Nikolaevna Volokhova in 1919. She worked as a nurse in a hospital during the civil war. Georgy Konstantinovich was in the hospital after being wounded. There they met. After a while, the lovers had to part, and after the end of the war they were reunited. In 1929, Maria Volokhova gave birth to Zhukov's daughter Margarita. But soon she became aware of the existence of another woman with him. For some time, Georgy Konstantinovich lived in two families, but then Maria got tired of it and she left with her daughter, having married another person. Margarita did not even know who her real father was. The mother told her about this only after her daughter graduated from school and the adoptive father disappeared in an unknown direction. Margarita was recognized by Zhukov and they communicated well. Many close people testified to this. But officially, Margarita began to bear the famous surname only after the death of the marshal. Daughters from their first marriage, Era and Ella, did not want to believe that they had a sister, and even tried to write letters to various authorities, accused Margarita of libel.
Alexandra Zuikova
Alexandra Dievna Zuikova became the first official wife of Georgy Konstantinovich. They met in 1920 in the Voronezh province. Alexandra worked as a teacher. In 1922, Zhukov married her, despite the fact that he was in a relationship with Maria Volokhova. Later, the marriage registration documents were lost.
Due to the nomadic life, Alexandra lost her first child and the doctors did not advise her to give birth anymore. But in 1928 she gave birth to a daughter, Era, and in 1937, Ella. After the birth of their daughters, Zhukov's wife left her job and devoted herself to children and family.
Alexandra Dievna knew about the existence of a rival, but she preferred to remain silent. But not only Maria Volokhova interfered with family happiness. Zhukov started a relationship with Lydia Zakharova, a military paramedic. They went through almost the entire war together, and after its end, Zakharova moved to live with the marshal. She left his apartment for her own only when the official wife came from Moscow. The relationship with Lydia ended after Zhukov's meeting with his second wife Galina.
Galina is the second wife of the Marshal
Galina Aleksandrovna Semenova was born in 1926 in Saratov. Since childhood, she wanted to become a doctor. Despite the difficult time and the outbreak of the war, the girl was able to fulfill her dream. Galina graduated from medical school and became a military doctor. In those years, this profession was in great demand.
Galina was transferred to serve in Sverdlovsk and it was there that she met her fate. In her youth, the girl was very pretty, but she was distinguished by natural modesty and was in no hurry to start a family. The famous marshal, who commanded the Ural Military District at that time, was hospitalized in 1950 with a microinfarction. Zhukov was fascinated by a young woman doctor, Galina Semyonova. Warm friendships developed between them, which then grew into love relationships. Zhukov was 30 years older than his beloved, but this did not bother them at all.
The romance between the marshal and Galina Semenova developed rapidly and after a few months Zhukov began to live in two houses. He made sure that his beloved woman was transferred to Moscow in the Burdenko hospital. When Georgy Konstantinovich was already living with Galina, he married Alexandra a second time, since the documents confirming the initial registration of the marriage were lost. The reason for making such an unusual decision was Alexandra's persuasion. She threatened to write him a letter to the superiors. Zhukov at that time was afraid of a scandal. Galina did not put forward any ultimatums and resigned herself to this state of affairs. In 1957, she gave birth to the Marshal's fourth daughter. The girl was named Maria.
Zhukov officially divorced Alexandra only in 1965, and in the same year he married Galina. The first wife was going through a difficult divorce. She fell into depression, became seriously ill. In 1967, Alexandra Dievna died of a heart attack. Zhukov did not come to say goodbye to her.
Georgy Konstantinovich admitted that his second wife was able to give him what he needed. But the cloudless family happiness did not last long. In 1967, Georgy Konstantinovich's wife was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. The operation was done too late. For several years she fought for life, but in 1973 she died. Zhukov was very upset by the death of his wife and died six months later.
Georgy Konstantinovich bequeathed to bury himself next to Galina, but Brezhnev decided otherwise. The marshal was cremated, and the urn with the ashes was buried at the Kremlin wall.
