Valery Pavlovich Malakhov is a Doctor of Technical Sciences, his career as the rector of the Odessa National Polytechnic University lasted for 23 long years, from 1987 to 2010. He has a huge number of awards and achievements that have made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian science.
Biography
Malakhov was born on July 9, 1941 in the Khabarovsk Territory in a not very rich family, exhausted by the military hardships. He studied, like all students, sometimes skipped classes, did not always turn in assignments on time, but graduated with good results. Valery says that education made a huge contribution to his future career, but the most important thing is that there was always an interest in his profession, he wanted to do it. At the age of 22 he graduated from the Odessa Polytechnic Institute, which since 2001 has been called the "National University".
After graduating from this "high school", Valery decided to engage in teaching activities. He was sent to work as a teacher at the institute, which he just graduated from. As Malakhov himself admits, he did not plan to stay to work in this educational institution, but it turned out that he was offered a job, he agreed and subsequently turned out to be very strongly attached to his profession.
During the period from 1963 to 1972 he rose from the post of assistant to professor. Since 1972, he has taken almost all possible positions at the university chosen for work. In 1987, Valery Pavlovich was awarded the post of rector through democratic elections. He became the first head of the institution to be chosen in this way, on an alternative basis. Unfortunately, in 2010, Malakhov was removed from his post as rector, by a decision of the Minister of Education. Nothing is known about the personal life and family of the former rector, since Malakhov does not cover this information.
Activities and career
In 2016, he published a book entitled Around the World in 23 Years or Extraordinary Observations of an Ordinary Rector. This creation made it possible to take a prize at the well-known Ukrainian competition dedicated to the development of the cultural significance of the Ukrainian language.
Thanks to Malakhov, the previously famous "Odessa Polytechnic Institute" received the title of university. Since the beginning of the leadership of the new rector, in the interval between 1987 and 2010, the educational institution has expanded several times, the number of students exceeded all previously known numbers, the number of scientific and educational institutes increased to 8. At the beginning of its existence, this institute had only 3 faculties and 200 enrolled students.
Valery Pavlovich is an expert in the field of cybernetic and technical discoveries, he is also engaged in the development of national higher education, in particular, he prepares personnel for further work.
He created a scientific school that deals with the automation of synthesis and the design of mechanical control devices. On account of Malakhov there are 14 candidates of sciences and 7 doctors, who for many years were trained by the former rector of the National Institute.

Malakhov has a huge number of awards and statuses on his account, most of which were awarded for his contribution to the development of technical education in Ukraine. His name can be found in various sources around the world. For example, "The Golden Book of the Business Elite of Ukraine", 27th version of the "International Biographical Dictionary". He is a laureate of the global competition "Golden Fortune" and the rating for assessing the popularity of people "People's Recognition - 2005". Valery Pavlovich has dozens of awards received for his active work in the scientific field.
