"Layout" - the distribution in order of the available materials. First you need to decide what will be located on the front page. Correctly selected material is the key to success. This is where the killer headlines, the best photos, the faces of stars or politicians should be. In other words, what's hot for your audience is brought out on the cover.
Instructions
Step 1
The layout always corresponds to the "format" of the newspaper and the interests of its readers, of course, the publisher also takes into account his own interests. For example, serious publications put the "main theme" on the cover, and the material enlightened to it is sent to the "depth" of the issue, on a spread. Ever wondered why this is? Leafing through the newspaper, you will have time to catch your eye and other materials. Everyone will write about the main thing, but there is a possibility that while you get to the point, you will see a heading for the sake of which you will buy a newspaper next time. So, the basic principles of layout: the main thing is on the cover, the rest is the job of the "rubricator". It is a system for placing permanent newspaper topics on the pages. So, for example, if you publish a newspaper about the life of the city, then on the first pages there may be notes about the initiatives of the city council or the mayor's office. After, headings on social problems. Then a spread (main theme). Now you can move on to other topics.
Step 2
Let's say you have stories on the following topics: new traffic rules, an accident in the region, a speech by the head of state at an international summit, raging wildfires in your country, but far from your hometown; a star who gave birth to a son. If your publication is business and you write exclusively about politics and economics, then the layout will be next. Front page: speech of the head of state at an international summit (spread). Second lane: wildfires. The third is new traffic rules. The fourth is an accident in the region. And you simply refuse the "star with a child" - not a format. This is not the case if your niche is entertainment media. The first page is a photo of a star with a newborn, an "accident" does not suit you at all, an "international summit" can be placed in a photo, but not a protocol photo, if there is none, then it is better to abandon the topic.
Step 3
But all this concerns the structure of the publication. Unfortunately, the concept of "layout" does not end there. In order for the newspaper to look like it is necessary to deal with a few more things.
The reader should be "led" by number. There are different ways to do this. You can put the beginning of the article on the front page and give a link to the continuation on another page. "Catch" the audience with cuts, headers and footers, signatures of the authors, add blocks with interesting opinions on the topic, correctly post photos from events, sign images.
It is important to remember that there should be several "shock" stripes in the number. This will help to make the composition, you should always understand what to highlight and what to leave, on what to focus the reader's attention. Design will help with this. Everything is important here, from paper (what it will be, glossy or matte, thin or thick), to the colors of the logo and the design of the headings. The scope of your imagination is limited by your audience and your format. If the publication is business, playful colors and gloss should be abandoned.
Step 4
In addition, the design includes the size of your publication. Huge standard newspapers are a thing of the past. Reading them on public transport is becoming increasingly difficult, because newspapers are getting closer to magazines. A2 are reduced to A3, it is more convenient to carry such a newspaper in a purse or briefcase. We now have a practical A3 edition with a bright front page. It has a great shot, a killer headline. By the way, it is with the title of the article that failed sales are often associated. The headline should reveal the essence of the article and at the same time attract attention, if the essence is not clear, then the publication will remain on the shelf in the store. You should also consider the font. It is he who can become the hallmark of the newspaper. But most importantly, it should always remain "readable". Your audience should not strain their eyes in order to make out exactly what you are trying to convey to them.
Step 5
To summarize: the first page is the main thing you have; "Rubricator" is the main navigation system of your newspaper; design - an inimitable style, the composition will help reflect the main thing in the room; clear and bright headlines will keep the reader; a convenient format will ensure constant sales.
