Sophie Charlene Ekland Monk was born in London on December 14, 1979. When the girl was 6 years old, the family moved from Foggy Albion to Australia. In fact, it was this important event that predetermined her future career. Sophie's school had a very strong "Center for Artistic Development" where children sang, danced and did theatrical skills. The girl visited him from the age of eight and was a real star of the local scene.

Personal life

Not much is known about Sophie's personal relationships: the girl is definitely not one of those who create news stories with her novels. However, this did not prevent her from being noticed in relations with Jason Statham and Jude Law. In 2006, she began dating American guitarist Benji Madden. A year later, the musician proposed to the singer, it was going to the wedding. However, in January 2008, information appeared in the press that the couple broke up. No official announcement followed, but at least Monk returned to Australia alone. According to some reports, Madden had already fallen in love with the Hollywood star Cameron Diaz, whom he married a few years later.

For several years Sophie tried not to advertise her personal life, so it came as a complete surprise to the public when the star announced her engagement to Jimmy Esebag, director of America's Licensing Holding Group. Sophie Monk announced this publicly on the local radio station Today FM. Alas, this romance was not destined to last until the wedding. Just two months later, the couple announced their breakup.

Currently, Sophie Monk prefers not to advertise her personal life.

Musical career

Sophie Monk's professional career began in 1999 with the light hand of her mother, who invited the girl to respond to advertising. It reported on the casting of creative people with vocal and dance abilities: here Sophie's school experience came in handy. The casting was conducted by Popstars agency, known for its popular reality shows in Australia. This time it was about the selection of girls for a new female pop group. At one of the auditions, Sophie sang the legendary song of Marilyn Monroe "Happy Birthday, Mr. President", which won the judges. After several stages of casting, the girl was selected to participate in a new group called Bardot.

The calculation of the producers of the girls quartet was unmistakable: spectacular girls of model appearance with bright voices instantly blew up the music charts. Bardot beat one record after another. Their debut single took the first position in the music rating, and soon the entire album became the leader of the Australian chart. The group's next hits, I Should've Never Let You Go and These Days, were no less successful, after which the band embarked on a national tour.

Further successful steps in the development of the group occur one after another.

  1. In 2000, the group was nominated in three categories at once at the ARIA Awards.
  2. In July 2001, the band released ASAP, a new single from their second album. This is followed by a track that almost surpassed the success of the first hit - Poison.
  3. The group's second album, Play It Like That, started at # 16 on the charts and went gold in a short time.
  4. In 2002, Bardot released his next hit force Love Will Find A Way, after which he embarked on a second tour of the country.

Despite the natural success, the Bardot project was completely commercial, so in May 2002 it was announced to be closed.

Solo career

Of course, all the participants knew about the upcoming closure of the Bardot group in advance, so Sophie gained experience while working and thought about a solo career. Star status determined instant demand: in 2002, Monk signed a contract with Warner Music Australia to release her first solo album. The first single of the singer Inside Outside helped her release the eminent producer, Grammy laureate Rob Davis. The success was assured: in a few weeks, 35,000 copies of the single were sold worldwide. Sophie's second solo track, Get the Music On, was no less successful.

Already in 2003, Monk released his debut album, which was warmly received by both the public and music critics. The singer's contract with Warner Music lasted until 2004, after which it was not renewed.

Work in film and television

In 2004, Sophie Monk made her film debut. She played Marilyn Monroe in The Riddle of Natalie Wood. After that, the spectacular blonde was often invited to the cinema for cameo roles. Filming in the movie came to Sophie's taste, so in 2005 she decided to move to Los Angeles, closer to the "Dream Factory".

Extensive experience in show business and striking appearance did their job: in the coming years, Sophie starred in several films and TV series, including:

  • "Handsome";
  • "London";
  • "Click: With a remote control for life";
  • "Sex and Death 101".

Of course, there was no talk of high art and A-class films, but Sophie Monk was quite satisfied with the development of her film career.

In 2010, the actress got into a serious car accident, after which she was forced to move in a wheelchair for some time. Fortunately, the difficult period turned out to be temporary, and soon Sophie resumed filming.

In May 2012, Monk announced that she would be appearing on the FOX reality show The Choice. The program had excellent ratings, so Sophie decided to further develop in this direction.

Currently, Sophie Monk's schedule is planned for a long time ahead. Filming in films, participating in TV programs, interviews, musical performances: the work of an actress in Hollywood does not know pauses. The beauty is also in demand as a model - her face often flickers in gloss. Several years ago, she was offered a topless film for the cover of Playboy (the fee was $ 1 million), and of course, Sophie accepted this offer.

Currently, the Australian star is actively working on her acting skills, taking lessons in stage speech, so there is every reason to assume that all the best in her career is yet to come.
