Dax Sheprad was born in 1975 in the small town of Milford, Michigan. The father left the family when his son was only three years old, and from that moment Dax grew up with his stepfathers - there were several of them. Mom worked in the auto industry, Dax helped her from an early age.
After school, the young man became interested in improvisational theater and stand-up. To become a professional comedian, he enrolled in the Groundlings School, where he studied improvisation.
In parallel, he studied at college, then at the University of California, where he received a degree in anthropology.
Carier start
After moving to Los Angeles in 1996, Shepard began acting as an actor and comedian, playing small roles. And only seven years later he was taken to the show "Set-up", where he made friends with the host Ashton Kutcher and then found an agent through him. Almost eight years he was waiting for his first role, and in 2004 he was approved for one of the main roles in the comedy film Three in a Canoe. Critics smashed the film to smithereens, and the audience greeted it very well.
A year later, Shepard was expected to play the role of an astronaut in the blockbuster Zatura: A Space Adventure. This film became a cult, it was praised by both critics and audiences.
Two years later, Dax starred in several films: the satirical comedy "Idiocracy" (2005), the romantic comedy "Date of My Dreams" (2006), the crime comedy "Go to Prison" (2006).
Career heyday
Previous roles helped Dax Shepard gain experience, he became a prominent figure in cinema, and in 2008 he got the lead role in the film "Oh Mommy". This film made him even more famous, and his career, as they say, "went uphill." Soon, viewers saw him in one of the main roles in the romantic film Once Upon a Time in Rome, then in the TV series Parents and in the romantic film Free Ticket.
Director's work
In subsequent years, Shepard devoted himself to directing: he shot the picture "Fraternal Justice". The actor wrote the script for the film and directed it together with director David Palmer. It was a mock documentary about a comedian actor, and Shepard starred in it. The film was not a success, but soon another directorial work of Shepard appeared - the comedy action "Grab and Run", which was a great success. In 2017, his new work appeared: "California Highway Patrol".
Shepard's plans include new directorial work: a film about Scooby-Doo and the cartoon "The Addams Family".
Personal life
Dax says that he definitely has his mother's genes, because he still loves to repair cars and loves to ride motorcycles. He tried drugs in high school, and after that he is a staunch opponent of drugs and alcohol, and has been a vegetarian for a long time. Now, to maintain peace of mind, he is engaged in meditation.
As for the Dax family, his wife Kristen Bell is also an actress. Kristen and Dax got married in 2013, and they had two daughters one after the other - Lincoln and Delta.
