Childhood and poetry
Rasul Gamzatovich Gamzatov is a native of Dagestan. To be more precise, he was born in the village of Tsada on September 8, 1923. He is a representative of the Avars (one of the indigenous peoples of the Caucasus). Rasul is the third child in the family. He had three brothers - two older and one younger.
Rasul's father was a famous Dagestani poet. It was he who instilled in the boy a sense of beauty. It was his father who taught Rasul to notice the beauty in everything that surrounds him. Thus, soon little Rasul wrote his first verse - it was about an airplane that once flew over their village. Since then, poetry has not left his inquisitive mind.
Young Rasul studied at the secondary school in the village of Arani. His first poems were published in a newspaper when he was still a schoolboy. After graduating from school, he entered the Avar Pedagogical School, which he successfully graduated from. As a student, he never stopped writing poetry. A teacher by education, Rasul Gamzatov worked at the school until 1941. With the beginning of the war, Rasul Gamzatov left his teacher's career forever.
In 1943, the first collection of his poems was published. Basically, these were works on a military theme. It should be noted that Rasul never wrote his poems in Russian. Everything that can be found in Russian is the translations of certain authors. One way or another, the poet knew that each of his verses was translated, and was only glad of this.
In 1945, he became a student at the A. M. Gorky Literary Institute, from which he graduated 5 years later. By that time, Gamzatov already had several published collections of poems.
Gradually, the poet's work diverged into quotations.
Personal life
The first love of the famous poet was overtaken by tragedy. The girl passed away at a young age, which left a deep wound on Rasul's heart. Later, he dedicated a poem to his first beloved.
Despite what happened, Rasul decided to move on. On the way he met Patimat - a girl from the poet's childhood. She was 8 years younger than him. Moreover, as a child, young Rasul often had to look after little Patimat. The age difference did not bother two loving hearts at all. They soon became husband and wife and have been married for over 50 years. During this time, they had three daughters. How they live today remains a mystery for fans of the poet's work.
In 2000, Rasul's wife passed away at the age of 69. And three years later, Rasul himself passed away. The poet is buried in Makhachkala, next to his beloved wife.
Heritage
He left behind hundreds of poems and dozens of collections. The memory of Rasul Gamzatov is kept in various films, including “My heart is in the mountains”, “My road” and “My Dagestan. Confession.
In addition, several books with a biography of the poet have been published. There are also many articles devoted to Rasul Gamzatov, and monuments have been erected in his memory not only in Russia, but also in Turkey.
Needless to say, educational institutions, city streets, transport, museums, festivals, sports tournaments and even an asteroid are named after the famous poet.
