Childhood and youth

For many decades, chess was one of the most important sports in the Soviet Union. The state strongly supported the popularization of this game for the general population. Olga Anatolyevna Zimina was born on May 14, 1982 in the city of Vladimir. But for many years he has been living in fertile Italy. This country is distinguished not only by a mild climate, but also by a careful attitude towards talented people.

Olga grew up and was brought up in an ordinary Soviet family. My father worked at a tractor plant and regularly attended the chess club on weekends. Mother has repeatedly won prizes at regional chess competitions. Not surprisingly, the ability to play was passed on to her daughter. Already at the age of five, Olya fought on equal terms with ten-year-old boys. Zimina studied well at school. She had only excellent grades in mathematics and physics. It is important to note that the child had very little free time. The young chess player visited the pool twice a week. I went to the movies on Sundays.

In the chess field

Zimina achieved her first successes as a child. In 1992, at the world championship among girls under ten, held in Germany, she won. The chess creativity of the young Russian woman was highly appreciated by the "adult" grandmasters. In 2000 at the World Junior Championships, Olga won a silver medal. After the competition, she passed school exams and received a certificate of secondary education. At the next stage of her playing career, Zimina became the champion of Russia among women. Then, in a bitter struggle, she snatched the silver of the Russian Cup from her rivals. And in 2003, by a FIDE decision, Olga Zimina was awarded the title of grandmaster.

For several years Zimina played in tournaments of various levels for the Russian national team. Demonstrated a high level of play and occupied a position in the top three. At the next European Championship Olga met a chess player from Italy. They started a relationship, and the Russian chess player moved to a permanent place of residence in the Italian city of Modena. Since 2006 Zimina has been playing for the Italian team. The presence of the famous chess player allowed the Italians to move from the middle of the tournament table to the top positions.

As time has shown, the personal life of a Russian chess player on Italian soil has developed successfully. Husband and wife live under one roof and do what they love. Their daughter has already grown up, who gives hope for the continuation of the family tradition. The couple organized a chess school for children and adolescents, which has a good reputation among the townspeople and visiting chess lovers.
