Lucky for those people who know from childhood what they want to do. They don't have to think about choosing a profession. Of course, this does not mean that their path is easy and life is comfortable. Anything can happen, as, for example, with Charlie McDermott, who from early childhood showed a strong interest in everything related to the film industry.
He became an Oscar nominee when he was only eighteen years old. Rather, the film was nominated, but Charlie made a significant contribution to this event.
Greater fame brought him a role in the sitcom "It Can Be Worse", where he played Axel Hack. Filming on the series lasted almost ten years, and after each season viewers were looking forward to the next one - it became so popular.
Biography of the actor
Charlie McDermott was born in 1990 in West Chester. As soon as he saw the moving figures on the screen for the first time, he immediately realized that he wanted to know everything about cinema. Everything - from directing to the very latest intricacies of film and television production. And not just to know - he dreamed of becoming an outstanding person in this sphere of culture and making his own noticeable contribution to it.
Since childhood, he began to shoot amateur video and himself learned the science of directing. Charlie is scrupulous about everything, and while he was still a child, he carefully chose the places where he would shoot the next story. He made his parents travel all over the city while he was looking for the best shooting location.
But this was not enough for the young director: he was so passionate about filming that he managed to convince the teachers to take the completed assignments from him on video - he filmed videos on various subjects and so showed how much he had mastered this or that topic.
Truly, such a passion can only be envied. However, McDermott didn't just dabble in amateur work. He also went to various auditions, attended auditions, which he was most often refused. But the stubborn little boy did not give up - he knew that sooner or later his talent would be noticed, and he would play in the movies.
Career
Luck smiled at him in 2004: at the casting for the film "Mysterious Forest" he was selected for the role of a boy. He did not often appear in the frame, but the fact that he co-starred with famous actors Joaquin Phoenix, Adrian Brody, William Hurt and Sigourney Weaver was a significant event in his life. This gave him the opportunity to show himself as an in-demand actor, because he was chosen by a famous director.
After that, several commercials appeared in Charlie's portfolio, and then he was lucky again - he starred in a small role in the comedy series "Windy Acres". The show was directed by Jay Craven, and during filming he talked about a new project: The Disappearances. The young actor, having heard this news, got the idea to play some role in this film.
He liked the plot of the film and the time it was told about: the times when smugglers smuggled alcohol into the United States. These were the dashing years of Prohibition, when every trip could cost a smuggler his life. Charlie's main interest was that the director planned to make the main character of the film the same age as the assistant to illegal alcohol suppliers. He was determined to get into this film, for this role, and began a race with obstacles in order to get it.
Here again his passion for cinema was manifested: for eight months the young man was engaged in physical labor in order to become like the hero of the film. He doused himself with cold water, trained physically, began to live the way boys lived in the thirties: without modern means of communication, without a TV and other entertainment. All in all, it was a complete immersion in that legendary time.
After that, other tests began: a series of selections for the main role. Castings took place in different cities, and McDeromott wandered around the country selflessly until he reached the final casting in Hollywood. It was a decisive and therefore exciting moment, because many applicants for the main role came to the casting, and only one was needed.
As a result, the role of Wild Bill went to Charlie, and it was a huge joy and the biggest victory so far. Moreover, he was only sixteen years old.
Soon, McDeromott moved to Los Angeles - after all, it was there that the main filming movie party was. Since then, he began a very eventful life: he was invited to both the cinema and television. Despite his young age, he was a sought-after actor and sometimes worked on several projects at the same time.
Thanks to the series "Office" and "The Medium", he became recognizable and popular, and since 2007, one or two films or series began to appear in his portfolio. He took on any role: in dramas, comedies and historical films. This gave him popularity among a younger audience.
His work in The Frozen River (2008) received critical acclaim: the film was nominated for an Oscar. And Charlie himself received the Independent Spirit Award for his role in this film as a supporting actor.
After that, began a long period of filming in the sitcom "It Happens and Worse", which lasted until 2018. The plus of this work was that it was stable, and the minus was that Charlie began to be perceived only as the performer of the role of Axel Hack. This went on for quite a long time, but then McDermott still began acting in full-length films. To date, his filming plan includes one TV series and one film.
Personal life
Charlie was busy with work and constantly talked only about filming, so few fans noticed how he married his colleague Beth Allen - this happened in 2011. And in 2016, the couple had a son.
The McDermott family now lives in Los Angeles.
