Early years, adolescence

Leonid was born on January 30, 1923. His parents were railway workers. In addition to Lenya, they had 2 more children - Alexander and August. They lived in the village. Free Amur region, then in Chita, Irkutsk.

In Irkutsk, Leonid graduated from his studies. During the war, he wanted to go to the front, but he was too young, and he was not taken. Gaidai worked for a year in the theater, where he was an illuminator, then he was mobilized. At first, his service took place in Mongolia, but Leonid sought to be sent to the front.

Later Gaidai got into reconnaissance (Kalinin Front), successfully proved himself, received a medal. Then he was seriously injured, he was discharged. After the war, Leonid studied at the studio of the Irkutsk theater, then worked in the theater. In 1949 he began to study at the VGIK at the director's department.

Creative biography

In 1955, Leonid was given a role in the film "Liana", which was not very successful. In 1956, the movie "The Long Way" appeared, the first film of the director. The work was noted by the famous Romm Mikhail. He advised Gaidai to pay attention to the humorous genre.

The director shot the satirical film "The Bridegroom from the Other World", but for the picture he was suspended from filming, despite the good attitude of some famous directors of "Mosfilm". About half of the painting has been cut out.

In 1960, Leonid released the ideological film "Thrice Resurrected", the director again began to be treated favorably. However, he did not like to remember that picture.

In 1961, the short films "Moonshiners", "Dog Watchdog" were released, they brought fame to both the main characters and the director. Then there was the movie "Business People".

Three years later, comedies appear that have become immortal: "Operation Y", "Prisoner of the Caucasus", "The Diamond Hand", "It Can't Be!", "Ivan Vasilyevich Changes His Profession." In the 70s, the movie "12 Chairs" appeared, which once again brought glory to the director.

In the 80s, Leonid Iovich was working on the painting "Sportloto-82" and the issues of "The Fit". The films "Private detective", "Good weather on Deribasovskaya" went into perestroika.

In the films one could observe the same cast, the director often invited Vitsin Georgy, Demyanenko Alexander, Filippov Sergei, Krachkovskaya Natalia, Grebeshkova Nina. Songs from the films of Leonid Iovich became hits.

The great director died on November 19, 1993, he was 70. The cause of the death was thromboembolism of the pulmonary artery.

Personal life

Grebeshkova Nina, an actress, became the wife of Leonid Iovich. They were classmates at VGIK, they got married in 1953. Nina starred in 11 films of her husband.

Nina Pavlovna and Leonid Iovich lived together for about 40 years. They had a daughter, Oksana, and she became an economist. Gaidai's granddaughter Olga also received a degree in economics.
