Biography
In August 1986, on the 17th, the future footballer Markus Berg was born in the small Swedish town of Toursby. From early childhood, the boy wanted to play sports, and especially football. He began to take his first steps in a football career in his hometown of Tursby, at the academy of the club of the same name. He spent several fruitful years in the team and after graduating from school went to see one of the grandees of Swedish football, IFC Gothenburg.
Career
Demonstrating all his creativity and talents at the screening, Markus was enrolled in the academy of the eminent club. Thanks to consistently high results and progress, Markus was transferred to the adult team of Gothenburg a year later. The debut for the main squad took place in April 2005 in the opening round of the national championship against Malmo. In August of the same year, Berg scored his first professional goal. Berg quickly settled into the senior team, and during the season smoothly moved from the rotation to the main team. In total, Berg spent three full seasons at Gothenburg, in which he appeared 73 times on the field and upset opponents 31 times with a goal. In 2007, Gothenburg became the champion of the country, and Markus also received a personal achievement, he became the top scorer at the end of the season.
At the end of the season, Berg agreed on a contract with the football club "Groningen" and moved to Holland. For two seasons in the Netherlands, the talented footballer showed very good performance (in 69 meetings he scored 44 goals), but he could not win trophies. In 2009, another move took place, this time to Germany. The contract with the German "Hamburg" was calculated for four years. High competition and a different pace of the game affected the performance of Marcus. In 44 matches in which he appeared on the field, Berg scored just ten goals. The next season he spent at the Dutch club PSV on loan. A temporary move to Holland was also not very productive (41 matches and ten goals). Upon his return from loan, Berg lost his place at the base and spent the remaining two seasons on the bench, occasionally coming out as a substitute.
In 2013, the Greek "Panathinaikos" agreed on a contract with Markus Berg and the further career of the Swedish footballer continued in Greece. For four years in the new club, Berg played 152 matches, in which he scored 95 times, and in 2014 he won the Greek Cup with Panathinaikos. Since 2016, Marcus has been playing for Al Ain Football Club in the Arab Emirates Football League.
National team
For the national team, the famous footballer made his debut in 2008 in a friendly match with the Turkish national team, the match ended in a goalless draw. After the departure of the legendary Zlatan Ibrahimovic from the national team, Berg took the place of the team's main striker.
