From a monastery to an actress? This also happens, it turns out, and Catherine McCormack is not the first whose fate has made such a trick. She just grew up without a mother, and her father was forced to send her to a monastery. However, this did not prevent the purposeful girl from becoming an actress of theater and cinema.

The future star of the stage was born in 1972 in Altona. She was only six years old when her mother died and she stayed with her father. The elder McCormack worked in shifts in the steel industry and could not look after the young child. Therefore, Katrin spent her childhood and school years in the monastery.

How and when her love for the theater originated is unknown, but after school she entered the Oxford School of Drama, intending to become a theater actress.

Career as an actress

As soon as Katrin received her diploma from the school of drama in 1993, she immediately rushed to the stage, where she made her debut quite successfully. Her first roles were small - she briefly appeared on stage in the performances "Treason", "Arabian Nights", "The Cherry Orchard".

It was a real happiness - to stand on the stage, to feel the views from the audience, to understand what the audience's eyes are expressing. And when Katrin got her first big role in the play "Mama", it was unique.

Apparently, therefore, McCormack has always preferred theater to any other form of acting: she loves to rehearse, repeating scene after scene, trying new techniques and honing the role.

Catherine's efforts, her talent and love for the stage did not go unnoticed - in 2001 she was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Theater Award for her role in the play "All My Sons" as a supporting actress.

The path to the cinema

Simultaneously with the theater, there were film roles: "Overloaded" (1994), and "Braveheart" (1995). The latter picture opened the way for McCormack to Hollywood - thanks to her, Catherine was given the lead role in the film "The Honest Courtesan" (1998).

In the same year, she was on the same set with Meryl Streep in the film "Dancing at Lunaza" (1998), which is very popular at the Venice Film Festival. After that there were the films "Debtors" (1999), and "Whisper of Angels" (2000).

However, Catherine played a truly stellar role in 2013: she created the image of the nun Rebecca Ashton in the drama "The Bend" and the role of Lady Veronica Lucan in the film "Lucan" (2013).

In 2012, McCormack was in the director's chair: she became the author of a creative experiment with the participation of world stars called Playhouse.

Personal life

Catherine McCormack is quite secretive in her personal life, and does not flaunt her. From public sources it is known that in her youth she met with actor Joseph Fiennes, but this union did not last long.

Catherine is still not married, but she has a friend, Christian, who works in cinema. They have many common interests and they are happy to communicate with each other: they walk for a long time, prepare lunch for each other, watch videos together.

Katrin says that she is a recluse in spirit, so sometimes she likes to read alone.
