A successful Russian diplomat today, Andrei Yuryevich Gromov, is best known throughout the country for his film work in the period 1970-1971. It is his character in the legendary film "Officers" (his grandson is a cadet of the Suvorov Military School) that is depicted on the sculpture, which is located on the Frunzenskaya Embankment in Moscow.
The unique fate of the "sunny boy", who at the peak of his children's cinematic career chose the path of becoming a diplomat, is very indicative and non-trivial. Andrei Gromov has never regretted that he changed the set for the country's diplomatic corps.
Brief biography of Andrey Gromov
The future hero of the films "The Adventures of the Yellow Suitcase", "Valerka, Remka + …" and "Officers" was born into an intelligent metropolitan family on June 16, 1959. Fate from childhood was very supportive of the young talent. While in the second grade of high school, he was selected for the main role of the boy Petit in the children's film directed by Ilya Frez "Adventures …" at the Gorky Film Studio.
Interestingly, the successful passing of the casting by Andrei with very strong competition (more than a hundred boys were selected from various districts of Moscow) became possible because of his lop-eared face with an abundance of freckles, which gave his appearance a very colorful look. In addition, Oleg Bulankin, who was supposed to play this role one day before leaving for Tallinn, where the shooting was supposed to take place, became very ill. It was this fact that became decisive in favor of Gromov.
The beginning of Andrey's cinematic career was rapid. Immediately after the deafening success of his debut film work, he was followed by an offer to take part in the production of the children's film "Valerka, Remka + …" about "a triangle not from geometry." This short film, filmed at the Odessa Film Studio by director V. Kozachkova and script by R. Pogodin in 1970, only strengthened the cinematic fame of the little artist.
However, real success and popularity came to Andrei Gromov after the release of the title Soviet film "Officers" (1971), in which a whole galaxy of famous actors shared with him deafening glory. Indeed, in the first month of viewing in all parts of the Soviet Union, the film was watched by more than fifty million viewers.
It would seem that in front of the boy, whom the whole country was now recognizing, the alley of fame of Russian cinema was opening, but the two-year (1970-1971) experience of working on the set did not turn the head of the purposeful teenager. Andrey Gromov graduated from high school with honors and entered MGIMO at the Faculty of Economics. He even refused in 1976 from filming a fairy tale based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Princess and the Pea", explaining his decision to prepare for admission to the university.
An interesting fact is that on December 9, 2013, a monument to the heroes of the legendary film "Officers" was unveiled on the Frunzenskaya Embankment in Moscow. The sculpture reproduces one of the final scenes of the film, where two comrades in arms, a wife and grandson (the character of Andrei Gromov) of one of them meet after a long separation.

The bright fate of an actor in Soviet cinema eventually turned into a brilliant career for a Soviet and Russian diplomat. And the family relations of Andrei Yuryevich Gromov are also impeccable. His only wife was the doctor Tatyana. In this marriage, a son Andrei (a student at MGIMO) and a daughter Vladislav (studies at school) were born.
