The first Venice Film Festival was held in 1932 by dictator Benito Mussolini. Since then, this forum has been held annually on the island of Lido in Venice, and its awards are considered one of the most prestigious in the world of cinematography.
In total, about 50 films were screened at the 69th Venice Film Festival. However, only 18 paintings competed for the main award.

According to a vote of internet critics, the Golden Mouse Award went to Kim Ki Dooku. The Silver Mouse was awarded to the Russian woman Lyubov Arkus for the documentary Anton is Nearby. The Fipressi Prize of the International Federation of Film Critics has been added to the collection of Master Paul Anderson awards.
The special jury prize, usually awarded for cumulative contributions to cinema, was awarded to Ulrich Seidl for the film Paradise: Vera. Moreover, during the award ceremony, there was an embarrassment: first, Zaydl was awarded the "Silver Lion", and the jury member Laetitia Casta had to explain this mistake right on stage.
The best debutant of the 69th Venice Film Festival was Turkish director Ali Aydin with the film "Mold". He received the Luigi di Laurentis Prize, also called Young Lion.
The Golden Ozells were awarded to the script by Edgar Ramirez for the autobiographical story "Something in the Air" and the cinematography by Daniel Chipri in the film "The Sleeping Beauty".
The Horizons program of the film festival is dedicated to films demonstrating new trends in the development of cinema. In 2012 the films “Three Sisters” and “Free Tango” became its prize-winners.
The Blue Lion Award, which has been awarded since 2007 for films on homosexuality, went to Chinese director Jion Kyu-Hwan and his film Weight.
