69 Venice Film Festival will take place from 29 August to 8 September. The titles of the films that will participate in this year's competition were announced at an official press conference at the end of July.
The main program of the festival consists of four parts. This is the main competition, the Horizons program, a short film competition and an out-of-competition screening. No more than 20 films will compete for prizes in the main competition. Some of them have already been advertised, some are still in production, and therefore their content is kept secret.
Three directors will represent Russia at the festival. Kirill Serebrennikov's film "Treason" will participate in the competition. The essence of the film is reflected in the title: according to the plot, two acquaintances accidentally found out that their spouses were in a love affair. In the category "Horizons" declared "I want to too" by Alexei Balabanov about the heroes looking for the mysterious Bell Tower of Happiness. Out of competition, the editor-in-chief of the Seans magazine Lyubov Arkus makes his debut as a director. She made a documentary film "Anton is here beside" about the problem of people with autism. The main character is a young man Anton, who became the ward of Lyubov and other employees of the magazine.
Films of various genres will participate in the competition. For example, the painting "The Sleeping Beauty" by the Italian Marco Bellocchio can be called a psychological drama. The director addresses religious and political topics. And in Harmony Korin (USA), Harmony Korin (USA), the plot can be called standard for mainstream comedy cinema. Four girlfriends are bored in the dorm and decide to earn some money so that they have enough money for a fun vacation.
The synopsis of the painting "Passion" by Brian de Palma promises a lot of emotions and experiences. This French-German film shows the uneasy relationship between two girls claiming the same man.
Takeshi Kitano will present in Venice the sequel to his film "Outrage" - "Outbreaks 2". In the tape, the complex connections and the struggle between the criminal clans must be preserved.
The premiere of the film "To the Admiration" by Terrence Malik promises to be interesting. This is a bit comical, but still, in the end, a dramatic story of unloving and unloved people, connected by a fictitious marriage and the presence of common children. Unfaithful spouses confess to the priest, who also cannot find, if not happiness, then at least peace and comfort.
In addition, the competition will include pictures, the content of which is not yet known to a wide audience. These are the Israeli film "Fill the Void", the Anglo-American "At Any Cost", the Italian "He Was a Son" and "A Special Day", "The Fifth Season" (Belgium, the Netherlands, France), "Pieta" (Korea), "Paradise: Vera (Austria, France, Germany), Superstar and Something in the Air (France), Wellington Lines (Portugal, France).
The opening film of the 69th Venice Film Festival will be "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" directed by Mira Nair. The festival will end with a screening of Jean-Pierre Amery's work "The Man Who Laughs".
