Features of the 2011 pension reform

56 years and 6 months is the retirement age for women born from October 1, 1957 to March 31, 1958.

For ten years, starting from April 2011, the female retirement age in Ukraine has been increasing by 6 months annually. And men who have worked in the civil service retire at 62, starting in 2013. The law provides for a number of benefits for persons retiring later than the stipulated date. Women whose retirement age falls within this ten-year period receive an increase of 2.5% of the basic pension for every six months of their later retirement. Also, until January 1, 2015, women still have the opportunity to retire at 55, subject to 30 years of work experience and dismissal from work. At the same time, the amount of the pension is reduced by a certain amount.

The National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Ukraine proposes an increase in the retirement age in 2025 to 64 years, and in 2035 - to 68 years for both sexes.

Prior to the above retirement age, certain groups of citizens are assigned an additional pension on preferential terms. This category of persons includes women and men who worked in enterprises hazardous to health, in underground premises, as well as in jobs with particularly difficult working conditions. Article 13 of the Law of Ukraine "On Pension Provision" dated 05.11.1991 describes in detail all types of activities involving preferential pension payments and earlier retirement. Based on this article, men who have reached the age of fifty, who have worked for 20 years, 10 years of which in these jobs, have the right to receive a well-deserved pension. Women, on the other hand, must have fifteen years of work experience, 6-7 months of which were devoted to certain types of work specified in article 13. The age of a woman in this case must be 45 years.

An earlier pension of 50 years is given to women who have given birth to 5 or more children and raised them up to the age of six, with a total work experience of 15 years.

Also, for midgets and disproportionate dwarfs, a pension is assumed on preferential terms. The retirement age of such men is 45 years with 20 years of work experience, and the retirement age of women is 40 years, and 15 years of work experience.

An early pension is due to citizens of seniority in accordance with Article 52 of the Law of Ukraine "On Pension Provision" dated 05.11.1991.
