Didier Marouani is a French composer, founder and leader of the Space group. His electronic music has as many fans as it did three decades ago. The musician has 10 albums, many of which have become platinum.
The beginning of the creative path
He was born on July 14, 1953 in Monaco. From an early age, the boy mastered musical notation. At the age of 10, he created his first work, and two years later he made a studio recording. The young man continued his studies at the Paris Conservatory. Didier was considered a talented student, he was repeatedly awarded prizes as the best pianist.
The young composer began collaborating with popular performers, became the author of many pop songs of those years. And soon he himself began a solo career. The musician released his debut collection "Didier Marouani" at the age of 20. It was the result of a successful collaboration with the poet Etienne Roda-Gil. This was followed by the first tour and two new collections.
Space music
World fame came to Marouani in 1976 after the creation of the legendary group "Space". Together with Roland Romanelli and Yannick Top, he is rightfully considered the founder of a new musical direction synthpop. The album "Magic Fly" instantly won the audience's recognition. A clip appeared for the song of the same name, where the guys looked very unexpected in space helmets and props. The melody was so memorable that it was used in one of his films by Jackie Chan. In those years, the composer appeared on stage under the pseudonym "Ekama", although it was clear that the author of hits and the keyboardist were one and the same person. The band spent a lot of time in the studio and very rarely appeared on stage. When, through the fault of the producer, a concert in the center of Paris was once again disrupted, Marouani left the group and decided to perform independently under the Paris-France-Transit and Didier Marouani & Space brands. The two remaining musicians released a disc, written without the participation of the leader, but it did not gain popularity, and the team ceased to exist.
Didier Marouani worked a lot and fruitfully in the 80s. Spectators from many countries, including the USSR, admired his unforgettable laser show. Two new solo albums continue the theme of space, but they include elements of disco and rock. The musical recordings of the talented Frenchman were taken by the participants of the flight to the Mir station.
10 years after the split happened, Marouani regained the right to the former name "Space", followed by a series of successful tours and performances. But his activities were not limited to concerts. The composer has become a songwriter for many famous performers. In the album "Symphonic Space Dream", recorded already at the beginning of the new century, the musician managed to make his old dream come true - to combine his own style and symphonic music.
A significant part of the performances of the talented performer is associated with Russia. The concert in the Star City of Didier was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first space flight, Red Square and Sevastopol applauded him. In 2015, the famous musician visited our country again and performed on the stage of St. Petersburg.
Personal life
The great romantic Didier Marouani has long linked his life with a single woman. On tour, he often travels with his wife Rima. The couple have three sons. The elder Sebastian, in addition to giving his parents a granddaughter, works as a sound engineer in his father's team. Younger Christopher and Raphael go to school.
The creative destiny of Marouani was spoiled by the recent scandal with the Russian performer Philip Kirkorov. Didier accused him of copyright infringement. Experts stated that the song "Cruel Love" repeats one of his compositions by 41%. The Frenchman had previously had to conduct lawsuits on the issue of plagiarism, and, I must say, very successfully. This time, he demanded 1 million euros from Kirkorov for the right to perform the song, but was refused to initiate a case.
