Biography

Werner Lindemann was born in 1926 in a small town near Magdeburg, in a simple family. They brought up the boy in severity, early taught him to physical labor. Before graduating from high school, Werner started working wherever he could. After school, he entered the local vocational school, where he was educated to work in agriculture.

After college, Lindemann did a short job at a construction site, and then was drafted into the army and fought against the Soviet Union. After the war, Werner settled in the city of Halle - this is an ancient city, where the future writer entered the university, the Faculty of Natural Sciences. And then, unexpectedly, he entered a literary institute, because he realized that he could write well, but full-fledged creativity requires professionalism, which can only be obtained at a university.

As a result, Werner had three educations, and he began by teaching at an agricultural school, then was an editor in a magazine, director of a house of culture, and only then began to closely engage in writing.

This happened around 1959 - it was at this time that Lindemann settled in the city of Drispet.

And he began to write poetry immediately after the war. And what is surprising - these of his first poems were published in the collection "Stations", and they were mainly autobiographical works.

Notoriety

By 1970, Lindemann had become a famous writer and poet, and critics began to celebrate him in their articles. They wrote that he had very bright, light and witty poems and prose for children. He turned everyday events into extraordinary plots, painting them with poetic techniques.

In 1980, his book "From the House of the Village of Drispet" was published - a prose for adult readers about the peculiarities of socialist everyday life.

One of the areas of Lindemann's activity was work on familiarizing children and adolescents with literature. Therefore, he organized poetry evenings for children, devoted a lot of energy to lecturing in schools and colleges. For his contribution to the education of young people, he received a national prize.

Personal life

One of the interesting topics when people talk about Werner Lindemann is the topic of his relationship with his wife and son Thiel. In the press you can often find information that Werner was cruel to his son, but in the book "Michael Oldfried in a Rocking Chair" he describes the relationship between his son and father as very friendly and trusting.
