American comedian, best known for playing the roles of supervillains and superheroes. He starred in the films "Beetlejuice", "Batman", "Spider-Man".
Biography
Born 1951 in Kennedy Township, Pennsylvania. Father, George Douglas, worked as an engineer. Mother, Leona, was a housewife, raised seven children.
He attended Montour High School, after graduation he went to Kent State University, located in Ohio. During his studies, he began to participate in performances. He studied at the university for two years, after being expelled he returned to Pennsylvania.
Career
First appeared on the screen in 1975, on the Pittsburgh public television program "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood". Some time later, he began to participate in theatrical performances. He also performed with comic scenes.
Having not received the desired recognition in Pittsburgh, Michael moved to Los Angeles. He adopts a pseudonym, Keaton, to avoid confusion with the rising popularity of Michael Douglas, his full namesake.
In 1982 he began acting in the sitcom "Working Stiffs". The comedy had little popularity, but Keaton's comedic talent was seen in Hollywood. Over the next 6 years, he starred in 6 films without much success with the public.
In 1988, the comedy horror film Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton, was released. The film was phenomenally popular with audiences and critics. In the same year he starred in the drama "Clean and Sober", in which he played the role of a drug addict.
In 1989 he again starred with director Tim Burton in the fantastic film "Batman". Despite hundreds of letters from fans that Keaton was considered an unfortunate choice for the role of Wayne, his performance was liked by the audience and critics alike. The film became the most successful film project of the year.
In the nineties, he appeared in dozens of films with average success, participated in television projects.
At the beginning of the 2000s, he continued to act in films with varying success. In 2006 he voiced one of the characters in the animated film Cars.
In 2014 he starred in the movie "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)", which had great commercial success. For this role, Keaton was awarded the Golden Globe.
In 2017, he plays a supervillain in the movie "Spider-Man: Homecoming", also stars in the thriller "American Assassin".
Personal life
In 1982 he married Carolyn McWilliams, a soap opera actress. A year later, the couple had a son, Sean. In 1990, the family broke up.
In the late eighties, begins a relationship with actress Courtney Cox. The couple announced their breakup in 1995.
In the eighties he acquired a ranch in Montana, where he spends most of his free time. He is fond of fishing, especially sea fishing.
In July 2016, a star with his name was installed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
