On July 23, 2012, the IT Progress Fund announced a concept competition for the erection of a monument to Stephen Jobs in St. Petersburg. About 200 applications were submitted to participate in it, moreover, their authors were not only from Russia, but also from Europe, the USA, Canada, Indonesia. The jury of the competition consisted of IT specialists and top managers of the ZEFS holding, which founded the Fund. Internet users also took part in the voting.
25 projects got to the final, of which 3 applications were especially noted. The work "He presented progress", which received the third place, is a cube in a large transparent apple. Each side of this cube contains a QR code that can be decrypted using a smartphone.
According to the concept of the Stele of Infinity, the memorial should be an inverted pyramid, the surface of which is made of LED screens. They must show a biography and images of Steve Jobs.
The winning project was Sunny QR. The monument will be made in the form of a vertical white plate, on the surface of which pins are installed. Every day at noon, after a cannon shot from the bastion of the Peter and Paul Fortress, the height of the pins will be changed using the program. Due to this, the shadow of the pins will form a QR code. By reading it with a mobile device, it will be possible to find out information about events in the field of high technologies. The monument is planned to be installed at the end of 2012 in one of the squares of the Frunzensky district of St. Petersburg.
In the near future, a sculptural composition in honor of the founder of Apple will also be installed in Odessa. It will be made in the form of an open palm with a hole in the form of the corporate "apple" logo in the middle. There are plans to erect a memorial to Jobs in Novosibirsk. The project is carried out by ordinary students who are now collecting funds for its implementation.
