Francis's gift of writing was manifested in her school years, when she wrote down stories composed in her leisure time in a kitchen notebook. In an amazing way, ordinary boys and girls in her stories turned into lords and princesses, and thanks to this magic, her books remain popular with new generations of readers.
Frances Eliza Hodgson was born in 1849 in Manchester, England. Her childhood was spent in a happy family. She especially loved to be in a neglected garden, where she dreamed, read and composed different stories.
When Francis was three years old, her dad died, and her mother had to manage his affairs. At first, she did it, and the family lived in abundance. However, then things got worse, and the Hodgson family was forced to go to America to visit their mother's relatives.
There they lived in a simple hut near the town of Knoxville, Tennessee. Mrs. Hodgson's brother had his own grocery store, but there was little he could do to help her sister and her children.
In the States, they had a hard time - the country was in ruins after the war, and the Francis brothers were ready for any job. After the death of her mother, all the worries about the family fell on her shoulders, and she decided that she could also help the family - to earn money with her stories. Stubbornly and persistently, the girl sent her creations to various magazines, but they were not published anywhere.
Frances worked in the vineyards to earn money to send her stories to the editorial office, and, finally, one day luck smiled at her: a lady's magazine published her story. This work was noticed by the Scribners publishing house, became interested and began to publish her novels.
Literary creativity
Burnett's very first published novel was titled That O'Lowry Girl, and was based on real life as a child.
After that, things went better - Francis's novels began to be published, they were bought up by grateful readers, her works were liked by both children and adults. This is because there is a lot of kindness and compassion in them, and this is so close to the human heart.
Burnett became a famous writer when she was already over thirty. Her novels were published in England and America, she traveled to different cities, communicated with famous people. Celebrities of that time spoke warmly about her novels, even the American president read them.
More than fifty films based on Burnett's novels were shot, and all of them were also huge success with the audience. And now, based on her books, performances are made in theaters. In Central Park in New York, there is a monument to the Burnett heroes who sought to make this world kinder and happier, and succeeded in doing so.
