Pontus Anders Mikael Wernbloom - this common Swedish name warms the souls of many Russians due to the fact that this footballer has played extremely successfully for CSKA Moscow for many years. Despite such a bright period in his life, Vernbloom might not have ended up in the army camp at all, and he did not set himself the goal of moving to a Russian club.
Biography
A native of the small town of Kungelv in Sweden, born on June 25, 1986 in the family of single mother Anna-Maria, Pontus fell in love with sports since childhood, and at the same time played football and handball. Subsequently, he concentrated on the No. 1 sport in the world.
Handball skills and high growth of the player influenced the fact that for his first club - "Kungahella", he played as a goalkeeper. Over time, Wernbloom nevertheless began to play closer to someone else's goal, often finding himself in the role of a nominal striker, which helped CSKA a lot in the future.
Career at CSKA
In 2004, after a successful performance in the youth team, Pontus signed a contract with the giant of Swedish football - the Gothenburg club, where he played successfully for 5 years, until 2009, when the Dutch football club AZ Alkmaar bought the player for 2, 5 million euros.
It was here that in 2012 the breeders of the Moscow CSKA drew attention to him, but at that time he was not their main transfer target. The army team was attracted by the game of Vernbloom's friend and compatriot - Rasmus Elm, and Pontus was offered to sign a contract in order to persuade the transition, as it seemed at that time, to a more promising player.
As a result, both Swedes moved to the camp of the Moscow club for 9 million euros, but it was our hero who not only established himself in CSKA for many years, but also became a system-forming player in the team, and he enjoyed authority not only on the field, but also in the CSKA dressing room. …
For 6 seasons, Vernbloom played in all positions, except for the goalkeeper, showing himself to be a versatile and indispensable player in the team, both under the leadership of Leonid Slutsky and Viktor Goncharenko. After spending the best part of his career at CSKA, earning the love and respect of the fans and winning many trophies from 2012 to 2018, Pontus terminated the contract with CSKA and moved on as a free agent to the Greek club PAOK.
This decision was difficult for the leadership of the army club, but it is the 2018/2019 season that should become a transitional season for CSKA, and after the departure of key players, the period of building a new team is now beginning.
Personal life
Pontus leads a quiet and calm family life, married in 2010 and currently has two children from his wife Nina - daughter Penny Vera and son Millet, but at the same time, in his political views, he adheres to socialist views and shows an interest in Marxism.
Wernbloom has left an amazing mark on the hearts of fans and the history of the CSKA club for many years thanks to his playing and personal qualities. He will be remembered as a dedicated player in the army team and always welcome to the training base.
