Many Russian families have people who died in one of the many wars in the 20th century. At the same time, the exact fate of the deceased person is far from always known, for example, the date of his death, the place of burial. How can you get this information?
It is necessary
- - a computer;
- - access to the Internet;
- - information about the deceased.

In addition to his full name, you may need his date and place of birth, the name of the region from which he was drafted into the army, the number of the military unit in which he served, or at least the type of troops, the time of leaving for service and death or disappearance.
Step 2

Step 3
In the "Search" menu, specify the name, surname and patronymic of a relative, and, if known, date and place of birth. The system will give you a list of names, among which you can find the right person. From the information card, you can find out the date and place of death, the cause of death, and in some cases, the place of burial. There are similar online lists of those killed in local conflicts. For example, information about the victims of the war in Afghanistan can be found at
Step 4
If the Internet does not have all the answers to your questions, contact the archive, for example, the Russian State Military Archive - https://www.rusarchives.ru/federal/rgva/index.shtml There, upon your request, you can be given a certificate of the one you are interested in. relative and information about the place of burial, if known. The request can be submitted both during a personal visit to the institution, and sent by mail. But be prepared for the fact that the results will have to wait long enough.
Step 5
To search for those killed in the Great Patriotic War, contact one of the search teams, for example, the one presented on the website https://www.poisk-pobeda.ru/index.php. These organizations are made up of groups of enthusiasts who excavate battle sites and reburial and identify dead warriors. Perhaps the wanted relative will be among the victims of the war they have found.
