Placido was born in January 1941 in Madrid. His parents sang in operetta, and therefore he inherited their love for music, as well as talent and extraordinary charm.
In 1949, Placido's parents moved to Mexico City and organized their own theater there. However, as a child, their son did more than just music. He was very fond of football and was accepted into the school football team. And also he was always a lover of bullfighting - she always caused a storm of emotions in him.
Nevertheless, music surrounded Placido from all sides, and at the age of 8 he began to receive music lessons, and at the age of 14 he was admitted to the Mexican National Conservatory. In parallel, he performed in concerts with his mother. And a little later he became a member of his parents' theater troupe - he performed as a vocalist or as a conductor.
In 1959, Domingo was lucky to audition for the National Opera. He sang an aria from the baritone repertoire, members of the commission appreciated his outstanding vocal abilities. And they asked me to sing a tenor aria. Out of excitement, Placido faked, but he was accepted.
Opera career
In 1959 Placido made his debut as Borsa in Rigoletto. And a year later he performed with singers - the so-called opera elite. He sang in the operas Carmen, Tosca, André Chénier, Madame Butterfly, La Traviata and Turandot.
And a little later he was invited to Dallas, then to Tel Aviv. In 1966, Domingo became a soloist with the New York Opera House, and for several seasons was the lead soloist in the most popular performances.
Once there was such a situation that the most difficult part in "Lohengrin" had to be learned in three days - it was simply unthinkable, but the singer coped with it and performed brilliantly.
Since 1968 Placido Domingo has been a soloist with the New York Metropolitan Opera. Since then, for more than 40 years, he has entered this stage, performing every season. This means international recognition, peak fame and celebrity.
However, Placido was able to do more. He became even more famous when he sang the aria "Nessun Dorma" at the 1990 FIFA World Cup with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras. This performance resulted in the Three Tenors project. It turned out to be very successful: over the course of several years, these three ingenious singers gave a huge number of concerts throughout Europe. The most beloved by the audience were the songs "About Sole Mio" and "Santa Lucia".
Placido Domingo has 11 Grammy awards for discs that have released millions of copies, he has an Emmy award for the television films Mets Silver Gala and Hommage a Sevilla. He also helped create opera films: La Traviata, Carmen "," Tosca "and" Othello ". Also, his name was included in the Guinness Book of Records for the warmest reception of the public, and in this sense he even broke Caruso's record.

Personal life
Placido was married twice. The first time he married at 16, the pianist Anna Maria Guerra. And after two months they parted. In this marriage, Domingo had a child - the son of Jose.
The artist's second wife Marta Ornelas studied at the conservatory, dreamed of becoming an opera singer. And Domingo had to win the favor of her parents for a very long time: they could not allow their talented daughter to marry a young man with a vague future.
However, Placido's persistence won out, and in 1962 he and Marta got married. She left her singing career without regret and took over the entire family life.
In 1965, a son was born in the Domingo family, he was named Placido, and in 1968 Alvaro was born. Until now, Martha is the guardian angel of her family, supporting her famous husband in everything.
