In the early 90s, after the destruction of the Soviet Union, Viktor Ivanovich actively participated in the struggle against the restoration of capitalism. In 1992, he initiated the creation of the social and political movement "Labor Russia". The main emphasis in the activities of the movement was made on active protests and street demonstrations. Several times Anpilov took part in the elections, but did not gain a sufficient number of votes. In 2014, he unequivocally spoke out in support of the annexation of Crimea to Russia.

Viktor Ivanovich regularly published topical articles in the press. He always took part in the “marches of dissent”. His bright speeches at the rallies were of a mobilizing nature.
The personal life of a politician and journalist has developed well. He has been legally married since 1976. The husband and wife raised and raised two children - a son and a daughter. Viktor Ivanovich Ampilov died suddenly in January 2018 after a massive stroke.
