Literary career

Grisham worked as a lawyer for ten years, and all these years the plots of novels ripened in his head, because what the victims told in the courtroom was very impressive. It was in court that John got the idea for the first novel, Time to Kill. He printed it with great difficulty, after almost thirty refusals from publishers.

In 1991, he wrote the novel The Firm, in which a lawyer collects dirt on his dishonest colleagues. The novel brought the writer great fame. It sold one and a half million books in two years, the novel itself was on the bestseller list and stayed there for almost a year.

After this success, Grisham left his legal profession and devoted himself entirely to literary creativity. Since then, he has written numerous legal thrillers that have enjoyed consistent success.

A special place in his work is occupied by a collection about Theodore Boone, a graduate of lawyers. The readers fell in love with the first story so much that Grisham was forced to write a sequel, and the result was a collection of six parts about the same character.
