In the Orthodox church calendar, February is marked with one twelveth holiday. In addition, at this time, the Church celebrates the memory of some especially revered saints.
The first day of the month is marked by celebrations in honor of St. Macarius the Great. The great ascetic of piety was one of the first hermit monks. The elder lived in the 4th century. The saint is known for his great piety and special holiness. The Monk Macarius during his lifetime had the gift of miracles. The saint lived in one of the deserts of Upper Egypt.
The next day (February 2) the Church commemorates another great Venerable Euthymius the Great. He is known for his many miracles during his lifetime, the saint predicted the future, including the date of his death. There lived an ascetic of piety in the 5th century.
One of the most revered saints in the Russian people is Saint Blessed Xenia of Petersburg. The Church celebrates her memory on February 6th. The saint lived in the 19th century. They pray to her in all everyday needs.
On the 7th and 9th February, the saints of the Church are commemorated. First, Gregory the Theologian, known for many theological creations, and then John Chrysostom (February 9 marks the transfer of the relics of the saint, which took place in 438 from the city of Comana to Constantinople).
On February 12, the Church celebrates a special day in memory of the three great saints and teachers of Christianity - Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom. These people worked especially hard for the good of the Christian Church. Their numerous writings still serve as a bulwark of the dogmatic doctrine of the Orthodox Church.
The main church holiday in February is the Presentation of the Lord. This twelve-year holiday (one of the 12 main Orthodox celebrations) is celebrated on February 15th. This day marks the meeting of the Lord with Elder Simeon in the Jerusalem temple. On the fortieth day after birth, the baby Jesus was brought to the temple for dedication to God according to the general Jewish law. There was a holy elder, to whom it was predicted that he would take the Messiah into his own hands. In the temple there was a meeting of the Old and New Testaments in the faces of the Elder Simeon and the baby Savior.
