Idi Amin, one of the most brutal rulers of Uganda during the entire existence of the state, forcibly seized power. His dictatorial and nationalist style of government has resulted in hundreds of thousands of innocent deaths.
Biography
According to experts in the field of history, the specific date of birth of the politician is under a veil of secrecy. But it is assumed that his life began in the mid-20s of the last century on the northern coast of Lake Victoria, in the city of Kampala. From childhood, Amin was famous for his muscular, impressive physique. By his majority, he has reached two meters in height and weighs over a hundred kilograms.
The child was brought up by a mother who devoted her entire life to medicine, but for unknown reasons became famous for her "magical" abilities among the local residents. The boy's father left the family when he was no more than 2 years old.
Two years before his majority, Idi made the decision to adopt a religion like Islam. He began attending an educational institution that was characterized by a Muslim bias in education. The main passion of the young guy has always been sports, he practically did not pay attention to his studies.
Many people who managed to enter the circle of Amin's entourage told that the famous ruler never had the skills of competent reading and spelling.
Army service
At the age of 18, he decided to try his hand at the ranks of the British Armed Forces. Over 14 years in the army, Amin rose from the rank of ordinary cook to the captain of the Ugandan army. In the early 60s, he managed to become a close person to the very prime minister of his native state.
After 4 years, the current president of the country was overthrown from this rank. The new ruler introduced a unitary system of government, which Idi strongly supported. At that time, Amin became the "right hand" of the person who heads the state, became the first "military" person in the country.
Revolution and gaining power
As soon as the commander-in-chief of the Ugandan army got such great opportunities, he secretly began to gather his followers, who later helped him to carry out a coup d'état.
For Amin, 1971 turned out to be the debut year in his career: the man managed to take the post of ruler of the state. Then he made a revolution in his native country and took the place of the president, who was overthrown from office through military force.
First of all, Idi refused to engage in diplomatic relations with Israel because that country refused to help Uganda financially. The newly minted ruler established favorable relations with the USSR, which supported the African state, both financially and militarily.
State administration
The domestic policy of the current ruler of Uganda was famous for the promotion of ideas such as nationalism and racism. He organized armed groups involved in extrajudicial killings, torture or kidnapping of people for political repression.
Amin was very worried that he could be overthrown from power, so he killed all people who at least somehow aroused suspicion. In the end, it happened in 1979: the former head of state escaped to Asian countries.
