Success did not come to Mickey Rourke immediately. He was looking for his place in life for a long time, until he realized that he and cinema were made for each other. A former boxer with a highly questionable past, he eventually became a Hollywood star. Rourke's creative work brought him popularity, fame and a lot of money.
From the biography of Mickey Rourke
Philip André Rourke Jr., known as Mickey Rourke, was born on September 16, 1952 in New York. The father of the future popular film actor, a baseball fan, began to call him Mickey after the famous player Mickey Mantle.
Mickey's childhood can hardly be called happy. The boy was only six years old when his father and mother decided to leave. The children were taken by their mother, who moved to Miami, where the majority of the population was African-American.
Soon the mother became the wife of a retired policeman. As a wayward teenager, Mickey did not put his stepfather in anything, rejecting the rules and discipline imposed by that. Already in his youth, Rourke showed himself to be a rebellious rebel who does not recognize authorities.
Mickey Rourke's career
Mickey spent most of his free time in the neighborhoods of the city, among drug dealers and pimps. An unfavorable social environment brought Mickey to the boxing ring. In 1971, Rourke graduated from high school. He had a decent grade only in physical education.
Subsequently, Mickey developed a love for acting. He attended acting courses while still in school. At the invitation of his friend, Rourke once took part in the production of a play and played his part with pleasure. But the decision to make an acting career, at that time, he had not yet made.
Rourke began his career with hard physical work, after which only fatigue remained. For several years he moved in criminal circles, where he was distributing drugs. Once during a shootout, Mickey almost said goodbye to life. As a result, he decided to break off his previous ties and moved to New York, where he entered an acting studio.
Rourke took part in the auditions more than once, but in the end, these tests did not bring him anything. For the first time in the role of an actor, Mickey tried himself in the Spielberg film "1941". Then there were many more cameo roles.
At the beginning of the 80s, the film Rifling Fish, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, saw the light of day. After this creative work, Rourke began to be recognized. He receives invitations from other filmmakers who saw a kind of magnetism in his personality.
The film "9 ½ Weeks" was released soon after. Now Rourke has become a truly recognizable actor. The title of the star of cinema was assigned to him. Now Mickey could choose the pictures in which he would like to act.
The best works of the actor are considered the films "My Boyfriend", "Prayer for Departure", "Francesca", "Wild Orchid" and, of course, "Angel Heart". But in the film "Rain Man" Mickey refused to appear: he was not satisfied with the amount of the fee. The film won four Oscars. And Rourke more than once lamented his reckless refusal to participate in these filming.
At a later time, Mickey successfully played in the films "The Expendables" and "Iron Man 2", as well as in the tape "Thirteen". But the talented actor does not intend to stop there: he believes that the best creative works are still waiting for him beyond the event horizon.
Women in Mickey Rourke's Life
The actor's personal life has always been the subject of close attention from his fans and female fans. In 1981, he met the young actress Deborah Foyer. And immediately got married. Such swiftness probably did not benefit the relationship: in 1989, the union broke up.
Two years later, while filming The Wild Orchid, Mickey met Carrie Otis. The wedding took place. But the marriage was not strong and happy: the couple quarreled very often. In 1998, the couple broke up.
