Biography

Alexander Ivanovich was born in 1912 in the Zaporozhye region, in the city of Melitopol. His father was a railroad worker and wanted his son to have a reliable profession. At first it was decided that the boy would become a locksmith. But then the husband and wife of the Ovsyannikovs changed their minds. They noticed that Sasha is doing well at school and decided that his son would continue his education. After leaving school, the young man entered the agricultural college. In 1931 he finished it. Then he began his career as a zootechnician, but decided to continue his studies, get a higher education at the institute.

After graduating from this institution, Alexander Ivanovich begins to work in a pig-breeding collective farm, where pedigree pigs were bred and raised, here he worked for four years as a breeder-animal technician.

Career

Under his leadership, a new breed of large white pigs was bred. Alexander Ivanovich wrote a work on this topic and sent it to VASKhNIL. They appreciated the scientific work of the young livestock technician and invited him to work at the Poltava Research Institute of Pig Breeding.

The inquisitive scientist continued to improve his knowledge. He enters the graduate school of the Timiryazev Academy of the city of Moscow, writes and defends his thesis here. After successfully completed work, Ovsyannikov is invited to take up a profile position at the Research Institute of Animal Breeding in the city of Novosibirsk. Here he is engaged in breeding the Kemerovo breed of pigs.

At the same time, Alexander Ivanovich is the head of the animal breeding department at the Agricultural Institute in Novosibirsk.

Many who managed to listen to Ovsyannikov's lectures note that they were very informative and informative. Alexander Ivanovich had an immense store of knowledge, had an excellent memory, he could read by heart large passages from the books of Charles Darwin.

Merit of the famous scientist

In 1951, an outstanding breeder who made an invaluable contribution to the development of pig breeding, defended his doctoral dissertation. In it, he spoke in detail about how new breeds of pigs were bred in Siberia. In 1952 A. I. Ovsyannikov became a professor.

In 1956, the scientist was invited to Switzerland to work as an agricultural adviser to the Soviet Embassy. And in 1960 he returned to the capital to work on the presidium of the Academy of Agriculture.

At the same time, Alexander Ivanovich is working on breeding a bacon variety of pigs. The experiment was a success, so a new breed called KM-1 turned out.

For invaluable services, the outstanding professor was awarded certificates of honor, medals, order, and state prize. Alexander Ivanovich was elected a deputy of the Supreme Council. His scientific work is reflected in several dozen books that he wrote and published.
