Biography

The future famous composer was born into a Huguenot family. His father was a court painter at the royal Prussian court. And his grandfather was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper. Frank Duvall made his debut in 1952 as a child actor at the Amerika Haus in Films with an Angel, which also starred Harald Juncke. Later he started working as an assistant director at Vaganten Buhne in Berlin. In 1958, Duvall begins to study music and appears as a duet on stage with his sister Maria. Having recorded a large number of hits, the duo disbanded after four years.

Career

In 1965, director Heinz-Gunther Stamm accidentally discovered Duval's talent for songwriting and hired him for the radio show Miss Julie. Since then, the Bavarian Broadcasting Company has entrusted him with major musical works and has commissioned background music for entire radio shows such as The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Duvall also composed compositions for various television series, such as "Derrick", "A Lesson from the Old and Criminal Past", "Please Let Flowers Live".

His melancholic ballads-soundtracks were released in 94 countries and brought the artist worldwide fame. For example, the minion "My Angel" (from episode 77 of "Derrica") in Brazil alone sold 750,000 copies. In 1983, Franck Duval presented his solo album If I Could Fly Away, which went gold.

And in the period from 1980 to 1986, Duval achieved great success not only in European charts, but also in the USSR. As an experiment, he released several concept albums, which, contrary to his expectations, repeatedly took the first lines in the charts. As a result, he twice received the gold record award in his home country in Germany.

This experience, as well as collaboration as a songwriter and composer for popular pop artists of the time, helped shape Frank Duval's signature signature style.

Personal life

Frank Duval had two marriages. For the first time, he married a young actress Karin Huebner - they met while working together on one project. This marriage did not last long, and after a while Frank married a second time to the singer and writer Kalina Maloyer.

For Frank, she became an inspiration, a muse, and her voice was recorded for some compositions. They also gave joint performances. It is worth noting that in her honor, Frank wrote the work Kalina’s Melodie. In turn, Kalina composed the lyrics for the album If I Could Fly Away. The couple have their own house in one of the Canary Islands.
