Political activity
The regiment, where Ruslan Sultanovich commanded the battalion, was transferred to Afghanistan in 1980. Full-scale military operations were carried out on the territory of the neighboring state. Captain Aushev from the first days has established himself as a competent and decisive commander. The battalion under his command clearly carried out the assigned tasks. At the same time, personnel losses were minimal. For his heroism and personal courage, Captain Aushev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in the spring of 1982. In the fall of 1986, Ruslan was seriously wounded.
After returning from Afghanistan, Colonel Aushev was sent to the Far Eastern Military District. In the early 90s Ruslan Sultanovich became the People's Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, in 1993, Aushev was elected President of the Republic of Ingushetia. The formation of the new subject of the federation took place in difficult political and economic conditions. I had to work tirelessly. Political careers have not always developed favorably. In December 2001, Ruslan Aushev resigned from his duties as president ahead of schedule.
Recognition and privacy
After leaving the presidency, Aushev did not remain aloof from political life. For several years he represented the interests of Ingushetia in the Federation Council. In recent years, he has not been active in politics.
