Italian Paolo Lorenzi can be safely called an extraordinary personality in the world of tennis. He has two outstanding victories at the tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He is already well over thirty, but he continues to play and show good results.
Biography: early years
Paolo Lorenzi was born on December 15, 1981 in Rome. He appeared in the family of a surgeon and a housewife. His younger brother subsequently continued his father's work, becoming a physician. Paolo realized himself in sports.
He started playing tennis at the age of seven. At first, he went to the section with his younger brother, but he later stopped studying. But Paolo became interested in tennis and spent all his free time on the court. Good results were not long in coming. Lorenzi has several victories in junior competitions. Even then, soil became his favorite coating.
Career
On the "adult" court, the Italian declared himself in 2003. Then he won the first victory in a single tournament of the ITF Futures series ("Futures"). This is a cycle of international professional competitions for men. "Futures" is considered the lowest, "student" stage in the tournament rank. Despite this, his rating affects admission to the next level of competition - the ATP Challenger and the ATP tour. Lorenzi won his second victory at Futures in 2005.
In early 2006, he played for the first time at the ATP tournament, which was held in Adelaide. In the debut meeting at such a high level, Paolo played against Andy Murray from England. The first pancake turned out to be lumpy for him. Lorenzi lost 6-3, 0-6, 2-6.

In the game of the second round, Lorenzi played for the first time with the current first racket of the world. Then it was the Spaniard Rafael Nadal. Paolo was able to win the first set, but at the end of the meeting he lost with a score of 7-6 (5), 4-6, 0-6. In the fall of the same year, he won the Challenger in Ljubljana.
In 2012, Lorenzi played in several ATP tournaments. However, he did not go anywhere beyond the second round. Only at the end of the season, Paolo was able to qualify for the quarterfinals. In the same year, he won two Challenger tournaments: in Cordenon and Medellin.
In February 2013, at the Viña del Mar tournament, he won the ATP doubles title. Potito Starace was his partner. In the same year, he first entered the top 50 tennis players in the world.
In 2014 Paolo won the Mexican and Colombian Challengers. And the next year, Lorenzi was able to win in four Challengers at once.
In 2016, at the States Open, Paolo reached the third round of the Grand Slam for the first time. In the spring of 2017, Lorenzi achieved the highest place in his career in the ATP ranking. He finished 33rd in the singles rankings. In the same year, he improved his performance in the Grand Slam matches. So, at the US Open, Paolo played in the fourth round.
