Childhood and youth
The future film director and screenwriter Gleb Anatolyevich Panfilov was born on May 21, 1934 in an ordinary Soviet family. At that time, the parents lived in the famous city of Magnitogorsk. My father worked as a correspondent for a local newspaper. Mother was engaged in long-term planning in the economic department of a metallurgical plant. The boy grew up and developed in a friendly environment. He was loved and prepared for an independent life. Professional activity
After receiving his diploma, Panfilov worked for two years as an engineer at the Sverdlovsk plant for the production of medicines. In 1959 he was elected head of the department of the city committee of the Komsomol. Gleb, already in his student years, learned how to use an amateur movie camera. At the Komsomol work, these skills were useful to him. At the initiative of Panfilov, a youth film studio appeared in the city. At this studio, the aspiring director filmed his first short films "People's Militia" and "Nylon Jacket". In 1961 he was invited to the post of assistant editor-in-chief of the Sverdlovsk television studio.
Simultaneously with his work on television, Panfilov studied in absentia to be an operator at VGIK. Then he graduated from the course of directing. In 1966, the certified director was admitted to the Lenfilm film studio. Panfilov's first full-length film, titled "There is no ford in the fire," was released a year later. Gleb Anatolyevich's directorial career was developing quite successfully. In 1977 he moved to the Mosfilm studio.
