Lykov Alexey Vasilievich - famous Soviet thermal physicist, professor, inventor, academician. In honor of Lykov, one of the thermodynamic similarity criteria is named: "Lykov's number".
Biography
The future scientist was born in September 1910 on the twentieth in the Russian city of Kostroma. After graduating from school, he entered the Pedagogical Institute of Yaroslavl at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. After graduating in 1930, he got a job in a drying laboratory. And a year later Lykov showed himself for the first time as an inventor, he was given the so-called copyright certificate for an apparatus called "Variable Pressure Dryer".
The following year, the young inventor publishes for the first time a theoretical scientific material on evaporation surfaces during drying. This work brought recognition to the young researcher among Soviet scientists. Until the mid-thirties, he worked on a method for determining the thermophysical characteristics of wet materials, which would later be named after the scientist.
Career
From 1936 to 1942, the famous scientist consulted in the hygrothermal laboratory of the USSR NKLP. Combining his own scientific creativity and state work, Lykov severely undermined his health. After a long illness and a difficult operation, he finally went to bed. But this did not affect his productivity in the least. During the recovery period, he wrote two scientific works, one on the physical characteristics of drying processes, and the second on thermal conductivity and diffusion of materials.
In the early forties, Alexey Lykov defended his doctoral thesis at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. After he received the title of professor. In the fifties, he worked on freeze drying research. In 1955, on the basis of his theoretical research, experimental work was carried out and the construction of the first plant with equipment created according to the research of the scientist began.
At the end of the fifties, Lykov "launched" the Soviet scientific publication "Engineering Physics Journal". The talented scientist was engaged in publishing his brainchild until the end of his life. And in 1959 he became the representative of the Soviet Union in the publishing house of an international scientific journal.
In 1967, he received the Order of Lenin for his work and achievements. Three years later he became the owner of the Order of the Red Banner. Alexey Vasilyevich paid great attention to international cooperation between scientists. He initiated the holding of scientific all-Union conferences on heat transfer, which have become international since 1988 and are held regularly every four years.
Personal life and death
The famous scientist was married twice. His natural charm and strong-willed character have always attracted attention. Despite the severe shocks during the formation of the USSR, a serious illness and the death of his first wife, Lykov lived a bright and amazing life. Alexey Vasilyevich passed away at the age of 79.
